Langer’s No. 1. (Pastrami on Rye, with slaw and russian dressing. It’s the bread – twice baked, incredibly soft with a crunchy crust, and the meat – hand sliced, delicious pastrami)
_sigh_
Now I’m hungry.

Cheese, lettuce, cucumber and salad cream.
Type of bread isn’t important.

Is there anyone out there who after reading this thread has not felt an overwhelming urge to charge into the kitchen, wrench open the fridge and make themselves a sandwich?

I doubt it.

Must go, someone has left the fridge door open.

BBQ pork shoulder, shredded, on a large bun topped with coleslaw and Leonard’s BBQ sauce. Heaven, nirvana, elysian fields, all rolled into one incredibly edible objet d’art.

Take some Gorgonzola cheese, crumble it on a lightly toasted bagette, add a couple of heaping tablespoons of bruschetta - diced tomato, basil, garlic, onion, black pepper – drizzle some olive oil on top, finish with thinly-sliced prosciutto. Add as much of it as you’d like.

Voila! You’ve died and gone to heaven.

Gack! hungry NOW!

Seeded baguette (sweet not sour)
Dijon mouse turds, I mean mustard
Hot Coppa or Hot Salami
Cheddar Cheese
Dill pickle slices
Reasonable layer of very thinly sliced tomatoes

heaven in a bun, I say.

I can’t believe no-one’s said it. Tuna salad. Made with mayo not that miracle whip crap.

Best sammich in the whole world, I can’t get enough.

Couldn’t pick just one.

Tuna salad is a favorite, but I love it with Miracle Whip. Sorry.

Love a good Reuben, with really tender, lean corned beef and zesty 1000 Island dressing.

The deli at the supermarket near my house serves a sandwich of lean prime rib sliced very thin and piled onto sourdough bread, then topped with wasabi mayo. Yum.

They also make a spicy chicken breast sandwich with raspberry chipotle mayo, provolone, butterhead lettuce, and fresh tomatoes that is to die for.

Cold leftover chunks of Mom’s pan fried chicken on white bread with Miracle Whip, salt, and pepper.

I once made a “stuffing sandwich.” Flattened out two pieces of white bread, piled leftover Thanksgiving stuffing in the middle, and pinched the edges all together. It was more like a “stuffing pocket,” I guess. Dipped it in a puddle of reheated leftover gravy. It was Good.

I got 3 garden tomatoes from a friend last night. I may make BLTs for dinner.

Good grief. Do none of you have taste buds? Try the following:

Sliced flank steak, fried with honey barbecue sauce.
Fried onions, mixed into that.
Put it in the middle of a piece of garlic bread.

Then we’ll talk sandwiches.

(Pastrami in place of the above-mentioned flank steak is also delicious.)

</div>

Almost forgot:

Roast beef
Aged provolone
caramelized onions
roasted red peppers
lettuce
Italian dressing
a loaf of artisan country white bread (chewy crusty kind)

This made a hell of a sandwich for a party. We feasted on the leftovers for several days.

Muffaletta.

A favorite hot sandwich:

Chicken breast
Swiss cheese
Basil pesto mayo
spinach
bacon
some kind of crusty bread or roll

Yum.

When I went on a rafting trip a few months ago, the tour company provided sandwiches for lunch. They packed a bunch of fresh veggies and good meat and stuff, and halfway down the river we stopped in a little pool off the rapids. My creation consisted of buttermilk bread, roast beef, ham, horseradish mayo, dijon mustard, swiss cheese, red onion, tomato, lettuce, avocado, and pepperoncini. I think it weighed about a pound, and damn it was good.

Chip(French Fry) Buttie with tomato sauce(ketchup) or

Chicken Caesar Salad Sandwich.

Between 2 pieces of bread fried after brushing with olive oil pile up sliced chicken breast, bacon, cos or romaine lettuce, anchovies, lemon zest, caesar salad dressing, pepper and shaved parmesan. Much more fun to eat than the salad in a bowl.

TMI: My sense of taste has changed considerably since I quit smoking, so it’s possible I might not hate Marmite so much now. Sperm doesn’t taste so bad anymore, anyway…

Ahem. Back to the topic in question. Hot roast beef, with the bread dipped in the meat essence, lightly smeared with English mustard. Must go now, I’ve started to dribble all over my keyboard…

You are both labouring under serious misapprehensions.
😃

Now, ketchup on a fried egg butty or fish finger butty, I’ll grant you, is a delightful thing.
Brown suace on a sausage or black pudding or white pudding butty - yes, most pleasant, indeed.

Sauce of any variety a bacon butty, however, is sacrelige and they shot 'em for less in the west.

Having freaked out the Americanos with my talk of black pudding I suppose I should now answer the OP.

My favourite sandwich would have to have black olive tapenade instead of butter, spread on thick crusty white bread with a liberal helping of roasted vegetables, parmesan and a few capers. If there were any spare pieces of chorizo or anchovies lying around, they would most probably get thrown in too, even though that would be a bit greedy.
