This didn’t go through the first time - glad I copied it.
My top 10’s of the moment. I have the sort of listening habits that change drastically within the confines of my iTunes library often. So this is the Tuesday, February 21, 2006 11:48 pm list. I have a problem doing all-time lists so these are the ‘now’ lists.
The hyperlinked bands are local to Nashville, TN, a city I visit as often as possible for friends and badass rock shows.

Wow, great responses and more than I expected. I don’t know why but it felt good trying to put these in a list. We have pretty good taste on this board so far.
In honor of **anyrose’s ** of admitting to The Monkees I am going to add a few guilty pleasure groups or songs. Frank Sinatra. I feel strange being in my generation and thinking he was great and probably a better singer than any of the Classic Rock groups I mainly listen to. My Parents and Grandmother love him. I begrudgingly do to. Monkees had fun songs and I still enjoy them. “Last Train to Clarksville” actually Rocked. Bangles, Sigh, I love the Bangles and not just because Susanna Hoffs is one of the cutest girls ever. Their version of “Hazy Shade of Winter” is awesome and “Hero Takes A Fall” is not only a great song but had Leonard Nimoy in the Video. I know my friends where listening to Megadeth at the time and here I was happy that Walk Like an Egyptian was the #1 song for WKGB in San Diego in 1986.
Anyone else willing to admit to liking “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin?
Dude, there is no way Frank Sinatra should be a guilty pleasure of yours. I found a vinyl copy of Songs for Swingin’ Lovers in an alley in 1994. It was a revelation. Of my top ten albums, that one has remained unchanged since I first listened to it. The man could sing. I’ll put it on with no shame at any party amongst any group of people. There is only one bad song on there, and only by virtue of the clunky lyrics (Makin’ Whopee). An undeniable classic “Five Star Album” worth listening to by anyone who enjoys music. Put your guilt away.

(It’s too late now, but it would be interesting to see the age of the people making these lists. I’m 52 and I was pleasantly surprised to see people who are apparently much younger than myself listing Jimi Hendrix, The Stones, The Beatles, Dylan, etc. I’m wondering how these individuals came in contact with these artists. I can’t imagine they’d be listening to Classic Rock radio stations.)
Obviously this is hard, so I’ll just make some stuff up. I’ll also try to keep one band per category, unless necessary otherwise.

I have varied tastes, but mostly I am a produce of a new generation. Hooray for lists!
If I would have had to make an ‘of all time’ list, there would definitely be Beatles, Stones, Neil Young, etc in the mix because it’s what I grew up listening to. I love me some good classic rock. A lot of people in my general age group are the same way - their parents still rocked it so they do too.
They’re my guilty pleasure too. (See them hidden in the midst of my lists above.) Great songs, and great vocals from all four women. It’s awful that they’re known for “Walk Like An Egyptian” and “Eternal Flame” - I always say that it’s as if The Beatles were known only for “Yellow Submarine” and “The Long and Winding Road”. They’re latest album (Doll Revolution, 2003) is fantastic.
Slight correction though - Leonard Nimoy was in the video for “Going Down To Liverpool”. A song which was possibly the highlight of their live show when I saw them a couple of months ago.
I have been listening to this song obsessively for the last two weeks or so. Its crazy. I can’t help but want to sing along and dance when I hear it.
Good to see lots of love for Sufjan Stevens in this thread.
Ain’t no one said it had to be pop-culture viable, so.
