On an actual keyboard I have a tendency to double space between words when I’m typing fast. I also sometimes hit the forward slash button rather than the delete button. On a touchscreen my biggest issue is accidentally hitting one of the bottom letters, usually a “b” instead of the space bar. ---

I learned to touch type on a manual Royal typewriter back in the 9th grade in the 60s. I hit about 80 wpm on a regular basis. I can’t get up to that now, what with the arthritis, but can still go at a decent clip, especially if I’m copying something. I’m finding that I’m making more spelling errors and omissions as I’m getting older, and have to go back and edit posts quite often. ---

5 and r It’s my most common error since I learned to type at the age of 7, because it’s a brain error rather than a finger error. _So it happens even when I’m using a pen or pencil_. The character used to represent “r” is 5, it’s a reach up from the “f” key, it’s a down stroke with a line across the top. ---

Difficult to describe, but I type at the “word” level. My brain sends entire words and my fingers just do it somehow. Because the finger movement is sort of automatic, I have problems with my hands autocompleting a word with something similar and more common. Honestly, it’s just like with my phone, only faster. Been touch-typing since the early 70s. My mom taught typing and other “business” classes in my high school and insisted I learn. She taught us on typewriters with blank keys. Do schools have keyboards like that today? Oh, and the occasional teh, etc. happens too. ---

I’m a pretty good typist, but I have a hard time remembering the special characters that are the shifted numbers. The ampersand and such. Which one goes with which number.
