What is your opinion on the Clay Aiken/ Kelly Ripa "feud"?

I don’t get why Clay did that. It seemed like a rather random move. Was he trying to imply that she was going to say something inappropriate? I don’t get it.

And Rosie needs to stop instigating stuff.

So, does this mean I get to manhandle Kelly Ripa?

I’m not sure what leads me to this conclusion, but it’s a good one.

Ah, you and Lochdale already had said it, but in even more crude ways.

Eeeeexcellent…

(although I don’t wish any harm upon Clay at all, gay or no gay. Hey, that sounds like a new game show!)

If you watch one of the longer videos on YouTube, you’ll get a better notion of what was going on. Clay was guest co-hosting, and he was sick of the fact that Kelly was asking all the questions, not letting him get a word in. So he (IMHO) rather aggressively and inappropriately put his hand on her mouth, as an obvious physical gesture to get her to shut up.

After Kelly said to Clay, that’s a “no-no” I thought Kelly said something like – boy that hand or wrist can really bend back. Maybe implying “limp wristed.” One of the oldest gay put downs there is.

I thought that what Rosie was reacting to. Not to we don’t know where Clay’s hand had been. Rosie was way out of line. Just because you’re out Rosie, doesn’t mean all celeb’s want to come out.

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean, say no more?
Your wife, eh…does she do photography?

(“Photography, eh?”, he asked him knowingly)

Morning TV is full of cutesy, folksier-than-thou people acting like best buddies who’ve stayed up all night at a pajama party. So Clay put his hand over Kelly’s mouth in a common gesture of playfully saying “aw just hush up.” Big freakin’ deal. What the fuck is with y’all acting like he put his hand up her coochie? Jesus, the things people get upset about…

Until I started this thread, I was not actually sure what part of the interaction Rosie was complaining about. I have a certain indulgent tolerance for Rosie, but she is a little confused if she thinks “We don’t know where that has has been” is homophobic. I say that A LOT- I work in health care. You would be safer putting someone’s FOOT over your mouth, there is less chance they were picking their scabs with it. Or pimples. Or armpits. Or nose. Or piladonial cyst… ick. Now I need brain bleach.
I am sure she would have reacted the same way if an accredited straight guy had done that.

I think this is a good example of making a big deal over nothing. WHO CARES?!?!

Morning TV blows. The only purpose of morning tv, as far as I’m concerned, is to be made fun of by Will Ferrell and Cheri O’Terry on SNL.

I thnk I’m in love with you.

Why would anyone give a rat’s rotten, red ass about what Rosie O’Pigface said about them?

Ripa’s best answer whould’ve been, “Who?”

After watching the clips of the actual “incident” and Ripa’s subsquent response to both Regis and The View co-hosts, I have come to the conclusion that Ripa has gotten too full of herself. If you want to be a respected journalist, then go cover the war in Iraq. But don’t expect anyone, including Clay Aiken, to take you too seriously when your usual modus operandi is a combination of ditz and flirt.

That being said, O’Donnell calling her response homophobic is a stretch. Uptight and humorless, yes. Homophobic, no.

well, aiken did force his hand onto ripa’s horizontal smile, while leaving her vertical smile free… while that says nothing about alleged 'phobe nature of her response; it at least gives us a(nother) clue towards his sexual preferences: i.e he ain’t a molester. at least, of milfs, on broadcast television.

so some subset of the population should be resting easier now, even if a very small subset.

Yes, Kelly lets Reege touch her, but they are close. She lets her husband bang her, that doesn’t mean its OK for Clay to do the same (not that he would). This is a common problem where people see two people interacting a certain way, and think that they can, for some reason, automatically do the same thing.

I think they were both wrong, however I think Kelly was the most wrong for making it such a public deal. She’s also a bit of a hypocrite, if not a homophobe.

Clay is not a “professional” talk show host. Clay may have seen previous shows where Kelly did this same thing to Regis and thought since he was filling in he could share the same sort of banter that they do. He also may have been seriously annoyed that she wouldn’t shut up and let it get the better of him, but again he is not the “professional” host. From what I heard Clay did send flowers and an apology to Kelly. I’m not a big fan of Kelly anymore, she’s extremely annoying and I think I have to admire Clay’s restraint in not just backhanding her off the stool when she wouldn’t shut up.

Kelly is the host, she’s done the exact same hand over mouth thing to Regis and in fact held her hand over his mouth for a much longer time, sure she and Regis have more of a relationship but it’s a little hypocritical to do this to one person and then have a shit fit when someone else does it to you. She should have calmly explained to Clay that they don’t know each other well enough for that sort of contact or just laughed it off on air and let it go and then talked with him off the air about why it was inappropriate. She also shouldn’t have given Rosie the satisfaction of talking to her on air about it. She should have waited until a later date and then phoned in when she was ready to deal with the shrill bitch.

Rosie should have just stayed out of it but she wins the contest for the most annoying and useless person in this whole brouhaha.

If we’re assigning style points in this slap fight…on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being “blameless and saintly” and 10 being “made a complete and utter ass of him/herself”…

Clay: 3. Shoulda kept his hands to himself, but probably thought he was making a harmless and cute gesture, pointing out Kelly’s yapping.

Kelly: 6. Overreacted, but not homophobic. She’s not a diva, so she shouldn’t act like one.

Rosie: 10. Butting in on somebody else’s argument. Seeing homophobes under the bed. Outing Clay Aiken. That’s a nice day’s work!

Maybe “gay card” will be the “race card” of the 21st century.

I’ll trade you an Elton John and an Ellen DeGeneres rookie card for a Flip Wilson.

From the get go, I thought Kelly was being a huge and diva-ish twat. I mean really, it was inappropriate of Clay, but what’s the worst thing you can do when someone makes a faux pas? Point it out to the world and make a big deal of it. Kelly is way in the wrong here, IMHO.

And I agree that Rosie was sticking her nose in an odd place, but she did make a good point when she was talking to Ripa on the View: that show is all about us hearing views from women in positions we may not understand- she was just giving her opinion on how she viewed it as a gay woman. Was she wrong in her view and perhaps reactionary? Probably. It’s still her view, though.

Ripa, OTOH, seemed like a shrill harpy on the phone in that View interview. Jesus H. I mean, seriously- HE PUT HIS HAND OVER HER MOUTH. You’d think he grabbed a tit and started suckling on air or something. It’s not worth getting nearly as worked up and shrill as she’s become.

I agree. Kelly talked about it for two days. Get over it, he pretend put his hand over her mouth. She told him she didn’t like it, she didn’t need to carry on about it and cry to Regis. Way to go Kelly, reverting to a 12 year old when something happens that you don’t like. I’m sure women everywhere are thanking you for taking a stand on this important issue. Rosie needs to worry about Rosie, and Clay need to worry about, who knows? His Claymates?

I think they should open a rehab for drama queens and all three of them should be the first patients.
