I recall a message-button I once saw: “It’s not easy being Hitler and Jesus at the same time.”

No, it isn’t, though I’ve usually been able to manage it.

I agree for many it was hard to answer. Solid liberal here.

So, is there any significance to the apparent fact that the Elections-forum-interested segment of a messageboard dedicated to fighting ignorance comes out mostly Solid Liberal?

Or is it just something to do with this board being rooted in a column published mainly in urban and college-town alternative weekly tabloids?

Or what?

Another Post-Modern Brit here. I wonder what portion of the P-M dopers are not American.

Fine. 🙂

First part: no. They’re arbitrary categories, you can call them what you will, or make “less SL” and “more SL.” I don’t believe any category is the right one, even the ones I agree with more.
Second: maybe. Well the results might affect a _lean_. I will guess that the poll doesn’t completely match with attitutes, e.g. I’d think there are more people who would state that they at least _lean_ libertarian, but not fit the specific standards. Hell most well known “libertarian politicians” are terrible examples of that ideology. And maybe SL is a certain width that encompasses more than it should. Or also that, IMHO, the questions they ask are rather specific to only a few areas of politics (economy, race, religion, and foreign relations/conflict). Although I don’t know if that implies that their results are “wrong” or poorly constructed.

Which party voting preferences would this reflect?

Mostly Democratic. Post-Moderns are 26% Dem, 33% Independent-lean-Dem, 19% Ind-no-lean, 16% Ind-lean-Pub, 7% Pub.

Another Solid Liberal, but I agree with many who have objected to the black/white nature of the questions and the lack of nuance or a sliding scale. I felt like I needed to wash my hands after a few of my choices, but if I had selected the other option, I would have needed a full shower.

Your question has been answered for voting in the US. In the UK, I dominantly (but not always) voted Conservative, but there is no way I would vote for the current Republican party.

My two dual-citizen US/UK sons have both done the quiz and are also Post-Modern.

[From RationalWiki:](http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Ukip)

> [@](#):
>
> The **United Kingdom Independence Party** (usually shortened to **UKIP** or **Ukip,** commonly pronounced “YOU-kip”) is one of the UK’s minor political parties. As their name implies, they want Britain to leave the European Union, and their origins were as a single issue party dedicated to that goal (although precisely what they would replace it with and how the transition would be effected is not always apparent).
>
> A significant cross section of the British population is antipathetic towards the EU, and a moderate party presenting a half-way sensible eurosceptic agenda might conceivably achieve some electoral success, but UKIP has to date avoided this trap by being careful not to convey any appearance of moderation or sensibility. Of conservative bent, they very effectively limit their appeal by espousing such things as global warming denialism, a flat tax and other policies of great concern to wealthy wingnuts and their Astroturfed political movements. By this means they do manage to steal some votes from the Conservative Party (who are too mainstream and pro-European) and the BNP (who are too vulgar and working class, and perhaps also just a little bit too overtly racist).
>
> UKIP does have a number of seats in the European Parliament, but hardly ever show up, let alone vote.[1] So that was useful, then. They also have a number of councillors. Quite how Britain’s membership of the EU is to be undermined by having a UKIP member elected unopposed to Much-Dogging-in-the-Woods Parish Council has never been publicly explained.
>
> Dave Cameron described Ukip in 2006 as “fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists, mostly.”[2] With the Conservative Party having being too pro-European in her later years, it seems Margaret Thatcher had been meeting with the leader of the party to give them tips. Seriously.[3]
>
> **Their support for nationalism and policies influenced by right-wing populism, along with their hardline social conservatism, essentially make them the British equivalent of the United States Republican Party.**

FWIW.

Apparently I’m post-modern… what I don’t get is how does “I’m doing OK financially” fit. My ideology hasn’t changed with my income levels. Oh, and I’m another non-US post-modern (a Foralist, actually, in my own country’s terms).
I liked that you didn’t have to pick in every pair.

On the other hand, we’d be living in a three-person theocracy, with one of the three being the Almighty Himself.

I’ll pass.
