I have a pair of flat pants in the same size as the pleated, but alas, every time I try it on, I can’t sit down. I’m built with all the fat localized to the front of my stomach. So pleats it is.

Thanks for the recommendations. I am testing Saucony Triumph, which fits very well, Asics Gel Cumulus (has potential, but feels spongy rather than padded so it’s a worry), Scarpa Mojito (that’s going back; it’s very high quality so I could wear it for my whole life- but looks too weird for me and it’s also not a running shoe despite the review I read), and next I will be testing New Balance 1080. Already had it on my list! I’ve always had New Balance and am looking to give some other brands a try.
