# What kind of games are you just horribly, terribly awful at?

**Q-Bert.**

That’s just about the game I’ve ever put in any time on and not gotten any better at all.

I was a good Quake III player. Cards? Got it. . .cribbage, poker, hearts. Chess? Half-decent. Sports? At least I’m a little athletic, though not powerful.

Fuckin’ Q-Bert though. I was off the side of that thing all the friggin’ time. I swear the joy-stick was only randomly related to whether and what direction Q-Bert jumped. I get irritated thinking about that fuckin’ game.

Luck games.

I’m ok at chess, really good at Stratego, or Trivial Pursuit, and good at backgammon.

But give me a game that 's mostly luck and I’ll lose. I rarely win at poker, or blackjack, I usually lose at board games.

I just have no luck with games of chance.

I’m a games fanatic, but have no flirting skill (these two facts could be related!)

I teach chess for a living, so if anyone wants a free lesson, just start a thread. In fact, maybe I will…

I used the same approach that works for me in chess in a first player shooter (I think it was Doom).  
On the training level, I swiftly look out from cover, spot an enemy and duck back. Then get ready. Then leap out, fire a couple of shots and duck back.  
I cleared the first level in 12 minutes, without taking any risk. My mate was gazing at me open-mouthed. Apparently the average time to clear this level is 35 seconds!
