# What kind of hat is Sgt. Snorkel wearing?

I’ve seen one like it – Otto the dog is wearing one!

Ahem. Seriously, I suppose it’s [this](http://www.wgn.net/~ww2imp/odwoolens.jpg) type of hat (does anyone know the name of it?), but very, very battered.

It’s very oo-rah crusty. The official name is garrison cap. In military vernacular, it’s called a piss-cutter.

Thanks for the link, Scratch. The cap in the pic is too big for the mannequin, so it looks very flat. When the soldier has a wide head as Orville Snorkel does, the top is stretched into crossways wrinkles and the ends stick up like ears. Just like Sarge’s hat in the strip.
