Last few days: William Shatner _Has Been_ Soul Coughing _Ruby Vroom_ AC/DC _Live_ Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros _Streetcore_ My car CD stacker broke off the mounts (that was some pothole) so it’s radio only in the car for the moment. ---

**Southbound** , by Doc Watson I’ve picked up my guitar again after a long layoff and this is a great album to get back into finger picking. **Cats Under the Stars** , by Jerry Garcia A criminally over-looked album (even if it is too short). The theme - “Don’t look back.” **Lark Ascending** , by Ralph Vaughan Williams (Sir Neville Marinner conducting the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields) As pastoral and blissful as it gets. Hey, I’ve been waiting a loooonnnngggg time for spring to get here. ---

I’ve been listening to some new Beatles and Jimi Hendrix outtakes and alternate mixes that I just acquired. They all ran at the wrong speed, and I had to pitch correct each track and make a new CD of each. Sometimes, I like to put a compilation CD on, and play the bass along with the songs I know. So I’ll put in a Time-Life collection, like “1969” and play with the studio guys. It’s a lot of fun. I also have Donald Fagen (of Steely Dan) doing a piano demo of the song “Black Cow”. It’s way cool to play the bass to that recording. Just me and Donald. That’s what I did this weekend. ---

Bronze § _Too Damn Hot_: **Dr. Lonnie Smith** (2004) Jazzy, Funk Soul with that (what most consider dated) Hammond 65 Sound. For an old guy, with a new album, I’m quite impressed. Silver § _Wolfmother (Debut EP)_: **Wolfmother** (2004) A (more) hard rock (than metal) band I 1st heard on Triple J Radio Australia. I still have a soft spot for bands that pay homage to Black Sabbath. Gold § _The Right Here is Buck 65_: **Buck 65** (2005) This is a must have for anybody (especially wordsmiths) - I can’t see how anyone could dislike it, whether you’re a preference is hip-hop or traditional roots stuff. ---

The last entire CDs I listened to were “Horray For Boobies” by The Bloodhound Gang and “Die Trying” by Die Trying. I’ve mostly been listening to MP3s this week though, by bands like Angie Aparo, Athenaeum, Better than Ezra, Beneath Augusta, Ben Lee, Kill Hannah, Kid Dakota, Kent (why yes, I have been listening to things in alaphabetical order) ---

I’ve just been listening to **[Nouvelle Vague](http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00018D3JQ/026-3419842-3392457)** , which consists of covers of new wave/post punk favourites in bossa nova style sung by French chanteuses (who apparently haven’t ever heard the originals). A strange idea, but it works most of the time. I think my favourite so far is “I melt with you”. ---
