Same here. One of us is allergic to trees so we always go artificial. We do have a 6’ artifical for when we feel like going all-out but that hasn’t been for a few years now.
We have up our 20 year old 7½’ tall artificial tree. It is a very nice tree I bought my first Xmas in my first house. My wife had gone to Florida for the Holidays and I was feeling lonely the day after Christmas. So I went off to Rickels of all places and bought a very nice floor model for about $80.
The tree is loaded with about 400 LED lights and lots of garlands and ornaments.
This tree is getting old now and I would like to replace it but it is very full and the bottom has a 5’ diameter. So far similar trees seem to be running over $300 when I can even find them. Also the ones I found so far are all pre-lit with 1000 twinkle-lights. (Incandescent). I don’t want to pay this much and I absolutely won’t use non-LED lights at this point. I hope that maybe after Christmas I’ll find something I like. But I am not counting on it.
We have a fir of some kind, not sure the variety. We selected and cut it ourselves at a local hill farm. This place doesn’t manicure the trees as much as some farms, so we had to walk over a considerable area before we found just the one we wanted.
We cut it down, harnessed our two dogs to it, and they pulled it out of the woods for us. Having the dogs do the work has become something of an annual tradition for us.
7 foot artificial tree that’s designed to be a Norway spruce. It has a real wood trunk (cedar, including bark), so it looks pretty nice. We’ve had it for over 20 years, starting when it was just my wife and I in an apartment, and we would fly back home for a week. I made us go get a real tree at a nearby cut-your-own tree farm for a few years, but the kids were never into it. If they’re just going to complain about it, what’s the point?
10 foot fraiser fir. Same kind and around the same size every year. 900 white lights with a silver and white light star on top. We used to shop around the tents around town to find a good tree but the last three or four years we find Home Depot has really nice fresh trees at reasonable prices so we just go there.
We have a fresh cut tree, about 7ft tall. I think it’s a silver tip. Most years we go to the same tree farm up the hill and cut one down ourselves. On occasion, we are strapped for time and go to Home Depot. I keep threatening to get a fake one, but we never do.
Artificial, green, pre-lit with white lights, 8’ tall. We’ve been using it for the last 3 years after the real tree we bought after moving to this house turned out to be a complete nightmare (it fell over 4 times!). We love our tree and it fits perfectly in our house.
Ha! I forgot to mention that we also have my grandmother’s 1960s silver tabletop tree, together with a vintage rotating wheel of colored lights to be projected thereupon.
I have a really beautiful artificial tree that has 700 steady-on white lights. To that I added four strings of 100 “randomly” blinking white lights, adding up to 1100. Last year I realized that I had so many decorations, they were hiding the lights. This was nice during the day, but not so nice at night. So this year I used less than half the decorations, and it’s much better.
My partner lives next-door, and has a “real” tree with only colored lights (no white). Since he has two dogs, he decorates his tree with dog toys or dog-related ornaments. Of course by the end of the season, few of the lower ones are still on the tree.
