_Useless Desires_ by Patty Griffin. I used to be totally unhappy where I was living and, though the song could be interpreted a few different ways, for me it was about that. My boyfriend at the time, who _was_ happy where we were living, (it was one of the main causes of your break-up) would be filled with dread anytime I put it on: “Oh no, another hour of GF crying…”. ---

Love that song. Patty has another one that fits well for me, in kind of a cautionary way, with _Long Ride Home_. It’s a great song about losing a loved one that you never truly appreciated until he/she is gone: Forty years go by with someone laying in your bed Forty years of things you say you wish you’d never said How hard would it have been to say some kinder words instead I wonder as I stare up at the sky turning red ---

As my name would indicate, I am a huge Nick Lowe fan…have been since I discovered him in 1977. His “Brentford Trilogy” especially speaks to me - “Impossible Bird”, “Dig My Mood” and “The Convincer”, along with “At My Age” seem to align eerily closely with the last 7 years of my life. UT ---
