The way I understand it, Marvel has to have an active character called “Captain Marvel” or they lose the right to use that name. There have been half a dozen Marvel characters called “Captain Marvel” over the years. ---

Dunno about Seinfeld but that cover reminds me there’s a whole bunch of people being paid damn good money to draw for major comics publishers, who have a very… idiosyncratic concept of perspective/foreshortening and body shape. > [@DrDeth](#): > > Of course you also have scads of attractive, sexy-clad men, too. Skin-tight tights, rippling muscles, etc. Referring back my earlier comment about clothes that look like bodypaint, yes, this was acknowledged with a wink in the first X-men movie, when Wolverine makes a comment about the black leather outfits and Cyclops replies something like “What did you expect, yellow spandex?” – because comics Wolverine _is_ ripped muscular in skintight yellow (though Hugh Jackman, a musical theatre man, does have experience moving athletically in tights). HOWEVER that tends to be the one convergence when the males wear skintight onesies and some of the women also wear skintight onesies (there is a notorious Milo Manara cover pic of Spiderwoman [don’t search at the office!] that caught major heat because it’s just _too obviously_ a bodypainted nude)(What did they expect hiring Manara??), but a lot of the women are in outfits that like I said can’t be worn by a moving person; and/or (and this IS a notable divergence) their “action poses” are at times more apt for a centerfold photoshoot than for fighting a battle. The “Hawkeye Initiative” site has quite a few observations on this, it began along the lines of OK, let’s take this not-often-considered-sexy Avenger and dress and pose him like female characters are, so as to point out Teh Ridikulouz. Since the website has expanded to other male characters but the point stands. ---

Probably because she looked dumb with pants. Hopefully they’ll realize that Superman looks dumb without the “red undies” and bring them back soon too. ---
