# What makes kosher pickles "kosher?"

I mean, does a rabbi have to pick the cucumbers? ;j

And while we are on the subject…do they have to be dill? Is there such a thing as a kosher sweet pickle?

This has been answered by Cecil, in [Are kosher pickles really kosher?](http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a1_351.html) … a quick visit to the Home Page and thence to the section called “Archives” and you could search and find it for yourself.

That answers the first question, but what about the second? Is there such a thing as a sweet kosher pickle? Or has “kosher” become synonomous with “dill?”
