> There’s a neat card trick that depends on the qualities of this array:
>
> GOOSE
> BIBLE
> ATLAS
> THIGH
>
> Each row contains a double letter and a letter in common with each other row.
>
> The trick: (works with up to ten trickees)
>
> -Deal out 10 2-card groups face down on a surface.
>
> -Have your trickee(s) select a 2-card group, memorize it, and set it back down while your back is turned or you leave the room.
>
> - Without mixing the groups together, pick all of them up
>
> - Lay them out face-up according to the array above.
>
> -Ask the trickee(s) to tell you which row or rows his/her/their cards are in.
>
> -Point out, or pick up, the indicated groups and amaze all involved.

Nevermind. I found the link that does into detail.

A friend of mine in high school came up with this one to remember the geometry formulas for sine, cosine, and tangent:

**S** ome **O** ld **H** ens
**C** ackle **A** nd **H** owl
**T** il **O** ld **A** ge

**S** ome **O** ld **H** ens -\> **S** ine = **O** pposite / **H** ypotenuse

**C** ackle **A** nd **H** owl -\> **C** osine = **A** djacent / **H** ypotenuse

**T** il **O** ld **A** ge -\> **T** angent = **O** pposite / **A** djacent

I can’t think of any I’ve invented at the moment, but when my kids are trying to study for tests, I can usually come up with something rude which helps them remember.

I vividly recall Grandma teaching us to spell occupy: “Oh see, see! You pee! Why?”

What’s almost as much fun as coming up with neat phrases to remember difficult sequences by, is taking simple and easy to remember things and making complicated mnemonics for them.

Example: STOP

Skid Tires On Pavement
Shouldn’t Tease Our Policemen

It gets even worse when acronyms for good old Anglo-Saxon words are invented:

Found Under Carnal Knowledge

And I have been debating whether to share my PIN for my bank card which, for some bizarre reason, I remember better as a phrase than as a 4-digit number.

Betty’s A Crummy Floozie

We used the Native American sounding name: Sohcahtoa (So-ca-tow-a)
