# What mistakes do you repeat over and over?

- I always remember that I have a discount gas credit card just after I’ve paid with my regular credit card.
- When I leave a parking garage during the day, my lights are on until I’m at my destination, remove the key, and hear the lights-on warning.
- I always forget what to do with my pot after I fry hamburgers. I look at the junk stuck to the bottom and think I’d better soak this in soap. Right after I put in the soap I remember that it’s good to use that pot to make soup. The soup gets some extra flavor and the bottom gets boiled clean without effort. I think I manage to remember this trick one time in 10. Note that I use a pot and not a frying pan specifically so I can make soup later. But that’s not a strong enough mnemonic I guess.

If I go someplace new, and make a wrong turn on my way … wanna guess the chances that I’ll make the same damn mistake every time from then on?
I’ll think, “Oh, this is the place where I turned right instead of going straight … or was it the other way around? No, it was definitely the other way around.”
Then after a while the “wrong” route looks more familiar, because it’s the way I went the last time, and then I’m just screwed.

Dating the same kind of man over and over–the kind I apparently attract, for some reason. The ones who would most likely be good for me barely notice me. The ones I shouldn’t be with under any circumstances? Yeah, they’re the ones who ask me out.

There’s this lab I’ve gone to at least a dozen times for uh, various experiments I’ve took part in. It’s in the basement of a building and the door to the stairwell is really inconspicuous. _Every single time_ I go there, without fail, when I am ready to leave I walk right by the stairs and get about 15 feet or more down the hall until I realize I passed it.

Many business in my area are closed on Mondays. I work a half day on Mondays myself, and often run errands or do shopping after work. Time after time I drive to businesses that are closed on Mondays, on a Monday. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Typing. I have to enter the command “sh int status” about 15 - 20 times a day at work. I will consistantly type “sh itn status” then have to pause while I figure out why I didn’t get the display I expected. There are several other entries like that, but that one is the one that drives me crazy.

Using the wrong macros and hotkeys when I switch between applications. Why does every other Office application except Outlook use \ F to “search”, but when I unthinkingly do that in an Outlook e-mail it interprets it as my wish to forward the e-mail? And then I have to close the new e-mail screen, go back and hit function key \ to search. I do that at least five times a day.

I pay my car payment online, and EVERY SINGLE MONTH I forget what specific name and password I used, because about every four months I get mad at not remembering and reset everything. Which perpetuates the problem.
And when I finally get it right, I’m so annoyed/frustrated I don’t take the time to either notice or write down what worked.
So I do it again THE NEXT MONTH.
😕
I don’t have this problem with any other of a myriad of applications I use frequently. I have some kind of Perpetual Stupid that kicks in when my car payment is due.

I have a hard time not typing “ration” every time I really mean “ratio.”
I leave my half-filled coffee cup in the car when I get to work, and then have to turn around to go get it.

4. Return to same restaurant some time later.

I’m with you on that. Although I’m breaking that habit and marrying a guy who is good for me instead of the jerks I usually dated.

Thanks, Koxinga. I never bothered to try to figure out how to search in my Outlook emails. I also repeatedly hit \ F to do it. Now I know. Ignorance fought!
Every single time I use the stove at home to cook something, I accidentally turn on the wrong burner. Every. Single. Time. Five minutes go by before I realize that my food’s not cooking. I was brought up on a “Right Front, Right Rear, Left Front, Left Rear” labeled stove and I just can’t get the hang of the diagram type stove.
