# What mixed drink do you usually order?

I’ve finally realized I’m positively Bauhaus when it comes to mixed drinks. I don’t have 'em often but when I do:
- scotch and water, the quality of the scotch depending on my finances that week
- gin and tonic, not picky about the gin
- vodka and grapefruit juice, not picky about the vodka
- Bloody Mary, not picky about the vodka but snitty about the mixer and spiciness
Like the classic vodka martini, dry, but they knock me on my ass so I very rarely order them. One and my nose starts getting numb, a sure early warning sign of impending inebriation and hangover. I’d rather go for more mileage.

Either a margarita or an amaretto sour, usually. I’m not much of a drinker since I usually hate the taste of alcohol so I go with things that mask the flavor but aren’t _too_ weak.
Oddly, I love both tequila and jagermeister straight up though.

Gin and tonic; the thing I like about this drink (apart from the pleasure of drinking it, that is) is that when I know I’ve had enough, I just quietly switch to tonic and ice, and nobody browbeats me to ‘go on, have another one’.

Hot day drinks:
Bombay Sapphire and tonic.
JD with ginger beer and lime.
Rum with ginger beer and lime.
Tequila and pineapple juice.
Cold day drinks:
Bloody Mary - has to be made properly (well, as properly as most places make them, I have only had one perfect Bloody Mary that I didn’t make myself).
Whisky on the rocks with beer chaser (Staropramen if they got it).
Sipping Tequila as above.
To be honest I drink these whether the day is hot or cold but it seems that they _should_ be consumed on the right day.

Sounds good to me. 🙂
Seriously, here’s a good, simple martini recipe:
750ml Good Gin - I like Bombay Saphire (I still haven’t the nerve to try the french gin suggested to me elsewhere on these boards.)
75-100ml Dry Vermouth
75-100ml Sweet (red) Vermouth
25ml water (to simluate the ice which would melt if you made it in a mixer)
Gently pour the ingredients into a 1 liter bottle and keep it in the freezer.
Regarding the OP: When out I’ll either order a G&T (Tanq or Beefeaters) or a Whiskey and soda.
I do not order martinis when I’m out because I’ve been asked once to often “Gin or Vodka?” There is no such thing as a vodka martini. That is a cocktail, not a martini. - See elsewhere for the rant.

A Sapphire and tonic or a Grey Goose and grapefruit juice. Or, and I don’t know if this qualifies as a mixed drink, a snakebite: Bass ale and cider.

I’m thinking that straight liquor or “on the rocks” doesn’t really count as a “mixed drink”, contrary to what many replies seem to state…
So, if I’m not in the mood for my usual neat single-malt or Jameson’s, I’ll usually ask for an Old Fashioned. If the bartender doesn’t know how to make one I’ll get a Jameson’s, neat, instead. If the bartended doesn’t have all the ingredients (often the case), then I’ll opt for a bourbon and Coke.
If I’m doing the mixing, I could easily wind up with a margarita (with a dash of Midori), a tequila sunrise, or a screwdriver. You never know.

Geeze, I drink Snakebites and Monk’s Collars all the time. I count that as a mixed drink.
I also love vodka martinis if I think the barkeep can handle it. Chopin and dirty. mmmm…

There are so many:
I usually order a Seven and Seven when I go out. Almost anyplace can make it well. Margaritas frozen or not, without salt, or if the place is good, an italian Margarita or Chambord Margarita is also a great choice, but few places can make them well.
Crown Royal straight up or Jameson Irish Whiskey straight up is good if I’m doing shots.

Strawberry Daiquiris, Amaretto Sours, Lemon Drops, (I’m embarrassed to order 7&7’s in public), but recently, I discovered a Caipirinha (which seems to be remarkably like a mojito, but with cachaça instead of rum), they’re wonderful.
