I’m a heterosexual male. What’s not to like? Lady bits are soft and warm, partners enjoy it (I know it’s not universal, but in my experience it’s been true), it’s fun. Everybody’s having a good time. To be candid and perhaps delve into a little bit of psychology, I think some of this may have to do with early sexual experiences. I grew up Catholic, dating a Catholic girl, and vaginal intercourse was a big “no no,” while oral sex was on the table. We were both young and enthusiastic about it, so I’ve always enjoyed both giving and receiving since. However, I don’t think I’ve ever met a man who I knew really disliked giving oral sex. I know they exist, but it’s a bit puzzling to me. Then again, I haven’t really interviewed my male friends about this, but whenever the subject did come up, I’ve never noted any negative attitudes towards it. ---

I’m not sure if your poll applies to me (gay male) although I guess it could. (eta: on further reading, clearly it was intended to include.) But the other problem with the poll is that there are two answers that apply equally: I enjoy doing it, and my partner enjoys when I do it. I enjoy it for the physical intimacy, and I enjoy giving pleasure to my partner. Also there’s a kind of validation in my value and desirability as a sex partner if I do it well. Roddy ---

This has been my experience – that virtually all men enjoy giving oral sex – but the opposite seems to be true for women: they don’t seem to care for it much. Hence the poll. And, yes, **Hogarth** , you’re right. I didn’t think about an option for “partner not interested.” So, if your partner was interested, what would your response be? ---

Pleasing a willing partner in a manner that is itself pleasant (under normal circumstances), what’s there not to like? ---
