I saw umm, what was it, that CIA movie with Chris Rock while in Thailand. Their was a Thai trailer before the movie. Holy shit. I don’t give a fuck if I understand a single word in the movie, I want to see it. It looked like THE SCARIEST fuckin movie ever made. I hope somebody knows what I am talking about. But anyway, it was all about well shit I gotta guess. This chick was naked in the bathtub at the beginning and then she was holding a knife in front of this guy and then she was reaching into his brains and shit. I can’t really describe it, but holy shit it looked like the scariest fuckin movie ever… The fuckin trailer made me jump from my seat more than once… ---

From TV actually: In the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” episode “”, the whole crew is de-evolving. Picard, returning to his ship, is the only human left, but he starts to de-evolve too. He’s looking in Engineering for something when Lt. Barclay (Dwight Schultz), a now giant spider, jumps at him from the other side of a window. Scared the crap out of me. I videotaped all the episodes of TNG, pausing out the commercials as I watched. When I got startled by this scene, I flinched and hit the pause button on my remote. After recovering, I quickly un-paused the tape. So I basically paused out the really scary part of the show automatically. 🙂 ---

The part in _The Sixth Sense_, with the young boy, and his invitation to “come play with my dad’s gun” (paraphrased), and then you saw his head, AAHH I saw the first _Jurassic Park_ when I was about 8, and the scene with the kids in the kitchen had me terrified. No other parts of the movie except that part, especially when the raptors came in, and almost got them, scared me. I was about the same age when I saw _Independence Day_, and again, the only part of the movie that scared me (and still makes me jump sometimes now) is when the doctor is thrown against the glass by the alien in Area 51. ---

The scene in **The Haunting** when the skeleton comes out of the fire place. I wasn’t expecting that since it wasn’t in the orginal. A later scene made me squeek in upset, much to the amusement of the friend I saw it with- I really wish they’d warn you in advance if there was going to be scenes in which people have their own blood on their hands from wounds to their hands/wrists in a movie. **Rose Red** had me covering my eyes and chanting “oh no, oh no” for that reason…cut throats are a lot less upsetting to me. **AlbertRose** already mentioned my first thought (boy Jason in the lake). Most recent jump was from a Japanese movie called _The Eye_. A lot like _The Sixth Sense_ actually, but I liked this one better. A woman blind since the age of two receives a double-eye transplant but unfortunately the eyes came from a woman suicide who could see the future death of others. The formerly blind woman begins to see past dead people as well as future deaths. The jump scene is where she begins to learn to write and she notices a deathly pale woman standing in the corner. The woman in the corner shrieks something like “Why are you sitting in my seat?!?!” and then lunges for her. The lunge is very strange as she appears to fly like Superman in stop motion straight towards the main characters chest. Another jumpy scene is from _Creepshow 2_ in the story about the oil slick in the lake. The final scene where you find out the slick isn’t confined to just the lake. Then there’s the ape-monster that leaps out of Jack’s truck in the final scene of _Big Trouble in Little China_. How about when Large Marge reveals herself to Pee Wee Herman in _Pee Wee’s Big Adventure_? ---

I’ve only screamed out loud in a theater once, and that movie was _Arachnophobia_. The part where the spider, recently dropped from that huge tree they fogged, leaps back into life? Yeah. You know the one. Watched the rest of the movie through my fingers. Why, oh why, should one as afraid of spiders as I watch this movie? Of course, I now own it. Snicks ---

The head rolling out of the boat in Jaws sent my popcorn straight up in the air. And the skeleton in the fireplace in The Haunting made me yell the first time I saw it. And I’m really embarrassed to admit that on the second viewing, even knowing it was coming, I still jumped out of my skin and sent a hailstorm of M&M’s throughout the theatre! ---

My first one: Texas Chainsaw Massacre - when the guy and chick are looking around with a flashlight in the dark and the handicapped guy is basically saying “see nothing there.” just as ol you-know-who comes rushing in with saw in hand. Leapt up so hard at the drive in I tumbled out the back of my dad’s truck. And of course…Seeing Rosie O Donnel in Leather garb in East of Eden. Made me jump and try to drown my head in a uber large bucket of coke. ---

I’m with **SolGrundy** – most of these “boo!” gags are just cheap shocks. Sure, some of them are pretty good (the thing in _Jurassic Park_ that gets me is the raptor leap up into the ceiling hole), but they’re pretty forgettable. I much prefer the “spasm of realization” – something happens, passes over your head, and then loops around to smack you from behind when you suddenly recognize what it meant. Example: Towards the end of _Dead Again_, where the Branagh character is talking to the aged reporter played by Andy Garcia. We’re learning stuff, hearing exposition, and gradually we decide that this guy isn’t going to give the answer we were looking for. So Branagh asks about tracking those people down, and Garcia says, “Yeah, they opened an antique shop or something…” Okay, that’s – _ **HUH?** _ Omigod! A nearly perfect revelatory moment. I swear, I went to see _Dead Again_ in the theater six or seven times, dragging a different person each time, just so I could enjoy the whole audience collectively going _“GUH!?”_ at that moment. P.S. Regarding the Star Trek: TNG episode where Barclay turns into a spider (a very nice “boo!” moment, I’ll agree), small trivia note – that’s the only TNG episode directed by Gates McFadden (i.e. Dr. Crusher). She did quite well, making a better-than-average episode out of a pretty stupid premise. (“You, Captain, will turn into a small monkey.”) Wonder why there wasn’t a followup. ---
