2001 A Space Odyssey:

“Thank you, Hal!” - whenever my car reminds me that I left something on. Also when my old car moved the automatic seatbelts out of the way.

“My mind is going Dave - I can **feeeel** it.” Applies most days - haven’t used it much lately, but I should.

I whistle a few bars of “If I only had a brain” from the Wizard of Oz when I mess up something. So it’s an hourly thing with me …

The wife likes to quote Teri Garr’s first line in _Young Frankenstein_:

“_Would you like to roll in ze hay?_”

Followed of course with, “_Roll, roll, roll in ze hay!_”

And I like to quote another line from the same movie:

'_Could be worse. Could be raining_"
The kids and I have memorized nearly every line of The Emperor’s New Groove. Any time one of us uses a quote from the movie, the other two will start tossing them out, and we pretty much go through the whole thing. (We’re a charming family, really.) Last night, one child said “Do you smell something burning?” and was met with _gasp_ “My spinach puffs!”, etc.
Ha! I’ve used the line, “Very _good_, Kronk!” a lot when praising my children. Now my son (who is six) says it all the time!

Also, my sister and I will be ending a phone call, and one of us will often say, “Catcha later, Bill and Ted!” (I also can’t see a Circle K without thinking or saying, “Strange things are afoot at the Circle K!”)

And when my sister and I find we’re using a lot of movie quotes in our conversation, I’ll say, “Darmok and Jilad at Tenagra!”

I don’t use too many TV/movie quotes, since most of the people I deal with on a daily basis wouldn’t get the reference. A few my family and I do use:

- Whenever someone asks “Who are you going to call?” the answer is always “Ghostbusters”.

- Often when I see a box prominently labeled “fragile”, I point to it and say “Fra-gee-lay. Hmm, must be Italian.” (From _A Christmas Story_.)

- On rare occasions, when I see something unusually large for it’s kind I’ll comment “That’s not a \_\_\_\_\_\_\_, that’s a space station!” (From _Star Wars_)

- In my family, the first response to the question “What do you want for breakfast?” is almost invariably “Chocolate cake!” (From Bill Cosby’s _Himself_ standup show.)

Seems like we stopped keeping up with pop culture around 1985. 🙂
“Can’t let a little thing like this stop a damn pilgrimage.”

“That car’s afflicted.”

“There’s nothing wrong with going nowhere, son. It’s the privilege of youth.” “We’re not youths anymore, Peter Pan!”

“They’re jailbait. Bimbos. Little girls, with little brains.” “Well we’re not trying to expand their minds, so don’t get picky.”

“You are the most irresponsible person I’ve ever met!” “Well, somebody had to be.”
This movie is full of good ones.

“Waterskiing!?!?”
“I’m not a weenie.”
“No more quarters.”
“Gimme three chili dawgs… and a malt.”
“See that? That’s an ‘E’! That means ‘empty’, douchebag! Like your head!”
“Frog modified”
“Huh huh… what a space cadet I am. If I did that, who’d land the plane?”

Well, of course there is “your lack of faith is… disturbing” and “there is no try, young Jedi”. Only, we say it in Spanish and I was feeling too lazy to look for the originals.

Not from the movies but from our days playing Star Trek RPGs “siento un botijo en la fuerza…” (“I feel a botijo in the Force”, a botijo being a special pot used to keep water in and get it cold; it’s as low-tech as water-cooling tech can get and therefore sort of the absolute opposite of anything SciFi)

A reference to Sergeant York: “how do you hunt ducks?” said when someone is stumped by a problem.

Various lines from _Anchorman_, including:

“That doesn’t even make any sense.” (often with one of us saying, “60% of the time, it works\* every \* time.”

“AUDREY! AUDREY LOOK AT ME! I’m sorry.”

“I wanna say something. I’m gonna put it out there; if you like it, you can take it, if you don’t, send it right back. I want to be on you.”

“I’m kind of a big deal. I’m very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”

“I’m gonna punch you in the ovary, that’s what I’m gonna do. A straight shot. Right to the babymaker.”

I could go on for ages, but if you haven’t seen the movie, you won’t understand. It’s the most quotable movie ever made.

If someone points out something, like a sunset or a flower, by saying “Look at that sunset,” I’ll sometimes reply, dramatically, “That’s no sunset. It’s a space station.”

When entering a darkened room, I’ll say, “Lights please?” (Linus Van Pelt, prior to his explanation of “what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”)

If I’m having a stressful day: “Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue.”

“Oh, it’s twue. It’s twue, it’s _twue_!” - Madeleine Kahn in _Blazing Saddles_

“Think of your secretary.” - Harvey Korman in _Blazing Saddles_, whenever someone has trouble inserting one thing into another.

“Work, work, work, work, work, work, work! Hello, boys, I missed you!” - Mel Brooks in _Blazing Saddles_, whenever someone says “Work, work, work!” I can’t resist finishing.

Sadly, I’m displaying my refined taste in movies here.

**Twicky** , I also use Robin Williams’ ‘Humor’ line, but no one ever seems to get it. Or usually any of the others, either… Good thing I don’t have much social life.
