What _he_ said.

But if you do develop the varbles (and you call yourself **dare\_devil007\_**?) it’s a pretty good flick. You’re on your own with the vocabulary, but it’s nothing you can’t pick up from context, especially since **Stranger** used most of it above.

> ‘Sunset Boulevard’ To Be Remade As a Movie Musical
> In yet another case of a film going to the stage then going back to film again, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful company has confirmed that it will produce a film version of Lloyd Webber’s musical version of Sunset Boulevard with Glenn Close reprising her stage role as Norma Desmond, the role originally made famous by Gloria Swanson in the 1950 classic. The BBC reported today (Tuesday) that the new film will have a budget of $60 million and is expected to be released during the Christmas holiday season next year.

What else could there be.

We need to evacuate Manhattan Island, erect 50 foot containment walls, mind all bridges and waterways, and have the perimeter patrolled by heavily armed guards, so that The Webber can’t pollute the rest of the population with his abominable musical adaptations of good stories. Let him make “Escape from New York: The Musical” in Manhattan Island National Security Penitentury.

That was just…awesome. Makes me want to read the novel again.

Someone mentioned Soylent Green, and I think that could be an excellent remake. Omega Man would be another good one.

A lot of sci-fi from the late 70’s/early 80’s is getting redone. [Flash Gordon](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421201/combined) is already in the works. Stephen Sommers is writing, so I’m reserving judgement. I fear the essential fromage will be lost.

Supposedly that’s been shelved so he can do an update of _When World’s Collide_.

**The Clonus Horror** and **The Exorcist**. I can’t imagine anyone re-making or attempting to revamp those movies. EVER.

> Well, actually it was a partial remake. They recreated the prison break and events leading up to it, added different characters (and eliminated others), then tacked on a stupid vengence ending. I remember catching this thing once on the televisor during the scene where (in the original) McQueen sticks his head out of the ground and sees that they’re thirty feet short. “Great,” I say, “I’ll sit down and watch this for a bit.” The shock of me life awaits when I see people who are not McQueen, Garner, Pleasence, Colburn, Attenbourough, et cetera escaping. “What,” I exclaim, “the bloody hell is this, eh?”

Crap. Now that I read that, you are, of course right. I had completely forgotten about the partial remake in the beginning, and even after you’ve jogged my memory, I still can’t recall much of anything about it. Shows just how totally forgettable that whole thing was.

_The Great Escape_ is definitely a movie that is as close to perfect as you could hope to get. A remake could never even come close to equaling it. Let’s see, Tom Cruise as Hilts, Ben Afleck as Hendly, Hugh Grant as Big X, Pauly Shore as Ives . . . damn, where’s that vomiting smiley when you need it?

Uh, I take it you haven’t seen the premise of [this movie](http://imdb.com/title/tt0399201/), have you?

That came within a hairbreadth of being remade around 1997 as **I Am Legend** (the original title of the short story on which it was based). Arnold Schwarzenegger was to star and Ridley Scott was to direct.

_Return To The Forbidden Planet_ kicks ass, and I say this as someone who’s no fan of rock musicals.

(It’s "return"ing to the story, not the planet, for obvious reasons).

Still I agree, it wouldn’t work as a film.

Not a remake, but there was a [sequel](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shock_Treatment) made and a [second sequel](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenge_of_the_Old_Queen) planned.

Now let’s see if anyone is brave enough to take a stab at _Showgirls, Gigli,_ or _Glitter._
