Yes, we had our birth of a superhero movie. I wanted my superhero movie follow up dang it!
That sure seems plausible. The movie as filmed covers (loosely) the first half of the book. The second half of the book, with all the intergalactic finance law, is not covered in the movie. This is probably for the best, because if the first movie can’t make fighting an alien occupation exciting, there’s no way that they can make alien bankers trying to repossess the Earth fun.
The end of **Jumper **set things up for a sequel that never happened.
the bond movie with halle berry was supposed to have spawned a “Jinx” spinoff movie
Now, I’m the one nerd who really can’t stand Spaceballs(way too much of it cribbed directly from the source material, just with silly names and farts), but that title is fantastic.
Actually Jumper seemed more like a pilot to a TV show to me than a either a stand alone movie or a lead in to a sequel. It resolved very few of the problems/issues/plot-lines it brought up. At the rate it was going it seemed to be setting up another 20 hours of story, not just another single 90 minute episode.
The problem is that it worked before: he successfully convinced nearly everyone that Darth Vader had always been Luke’s father. If he hadn’t gotten that positive reinforcement, he might actually have realized this.
Once I finish the book, I’d be glad to talk about it in another thread. It’s pretty interesting (even if the writing is not the best).
Not exactly a sequel, but the creators of the TV series Arrested Development have been promising a big screen reunion/followup since the series was cancelled. Jason Bateman and Michael Cera and others associated with the show all say “Still in the works but no shooting date” whenever it’s brought up.
HBO once said there might be movie sequels to the series Deadwood but star Ian McKellen and creator David Milch (who evidently cordially despise each other) have both said it’s not going to happen.
Zombieland apparently hasn’t started shooting a sequel. There was talk of making it a series of movies or even a TV show.
If you got back to the Buster Crabbe “Flash Gordon” serials, at the end of the third one (“Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe”) Ming the Merciless is apparently killed when a rocket ship crashes into the building he is in but one of the characters says there is an escape if Ming thinks of it in time. I assume that was meant for a new serial which never happened.
Besides “Master and Commander”, Gregory Peck starred in similar type of British Napoleonic war naval hero Horatio Hornblower in a 1951 film. I don’t know if a sequel was ever promised or if it was a dud financially but you would think they could have made more.
I wonder if there was ever any talk of the Martians trying another invasion after the 1953 George Pal “War of the worlds”. Perhaps H G Wells’s estate wouldn’t allow it. Or for that matter, “Forbidden Planet”, although I am always convinced that Gene Roddenberry ripped it off big time for "Star Trek’.
I am surprised that Disney and Warner Brothers can’t get together for another Roger Rabbit film.
Any two minute appearance by that wascally wabbit Bugs Bunny is always appreciated.
I am waiting for Lindsay Lohan’s career to sink low enough for her to make another Herbie the Love Bug film. But she may OD first.
Last Action Hero (which, guilty secret, I kind of like) ended on a total sequel-promising cliffhanger.
You know, despite all of it’s many flaws, I liked Doc Savage, Man Of Bronze.
Took me forever to finally get my own copy on DVD.
George Pal’s last movie!
Thanks for that. Reading the article really brought back memories.
Interesting that the wiki states that he was tied up in the last episode. I could have sworn it was an episode or two before that. Old age must be playing tricks with my memory.
I felt the same way. I finally found the DVD on the Warner Studios site, which is a great place to find older movies, including made for TV ones.
It’s been announced for Autumn of 2012.
Supposedly a sequel is under way.
And it was supposed to come out around the same time as Naked Gun 2 1/2, which would have made it the Summer of Oddly-Numbered Sequels. hehe
When are we gonna see the continuing adventures of Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln? Huh? Huh?
