What names are truly androgynous, so far as you can tell?

I don’t know HOW I forgot this one. It’s one I hear often. Jordan.

My son has 2 very good friends with that name, one male, one female. The name Jordan is rarely spoken in our house without a last name accompanying it.

Elie

Eugenia

Gerry

Jan

Renee

Chris, Pat, Robin, Terry, and Kelly are my “I need a gender neutral name” names. I should add Jaime and Lee. Jessie, I’m more likely to guess female, but I’m not surprised

Taylor has pretty much become a girl, and Drew is still a boy. A Jordan over 35 is probably male, under 35, probably female.

Shelley

Whaaah?

‘Eugene’ = male. ‘Eugenia’ = bizarre female version. Surely?!

Yes, Eugenia is a Greek male name.

I’ve met a male Quinn.

My nephews (boys, duh) are Drew and Jordan. Drew is 15 and Jordan is 9. Even though I tease my sister about having 2 girls, Drew has never had a problem. Jordan, on the other hand…well, we really have to avoid the subject around him.

Vivian

Oh, and I might mention that my son Matthew is often called Matty. Only just now is he starting to be sensative about it because it sounds like it could be Maddie. He’s 7. He still doesn’t mind if I call him that, it’s everyone else he’s a little concerned about. So… Matty/Maddie.

Bev. There are two Bevs where I work; one is male and one is female.

Another vote for Leslie. The Leslie I know is male.

Francis is male, Frances female. Depending on how precisely one speaks, there may be a difference between the pronunciation of these two.

Adrian/Adrienne and Julian/Julienne have different stresses and pronounciations of the last syllable, at least where I come from, so to me they are different.

Taylor is a girl???

Sidney and Sydney are places to me…

In the absence of any other data, I’d lean towards “Chris” being male and “Kris” being female, though either one could go either way.

Female Francis

Here’s all you need.

Yes, I’m aware it occasionally throws out names like Ava and Brice. So what.

My daughter is named Loren, after her grandfather. The name is nearly even on the popularity list for boys and girls.

My name is Chris, (Christine, on my birth certificate). I have a nephew and a male cousin Chris, and a niece named Chris. In my class in elementary school, many years ago, I had male classmates named Kelly, Pat and Chris.
