Nikita.
It’s a MALE name… but I’ve seen many little girls (and many bitches)(of the canine kind)(!) named Nikita…
To me, it’s now totally neutral… though some people think I’m nuts when I point out it’s a guy’s name.

Yeah. When Elton John released that song in the 80s, it just didn’t work for me at all. I was supposed to be thinking of a beautiful young Russian woman, but instead was thinking of crusty old Nikita Kruschev.
And Dana Andrews. Or was that Dana Wynter? Both actors - one male, one female but I can never remember which is which.
My Grandfather’s name was Marion.
I work with a guy named Stacy. I also generally think of it as a girl’s name, so when I first started it took me a little while to figure out that Stacy was the guy who looks like a linebacker.
Also at work, a co-worker’s husband is named Dana, and at least Gerry finds it amusing that a company we do a lot of business with keeps sending him correspondance addressed “Dear Ms. _______”.
That usually only works if the woman’s given name actually starts with a “K”. All the Christines I’ve known have been Chris.
People say my name - Shannon - is unisex, but I’ve only met 2 male Shannons, and one was really Shenandoah. And has anyone met a male Kendall? Or a male Kelly less than 40?
Adding to the list:
Courtney
Devin
There were three Tracys at work – two male and one female, also male and female Stacys.
I always thought those were strictly female names, but I don’t make that assumption anymore, so those are androgynous for me.
I never heard of Quinn as a female name before. The only ones I know are Quinn Martin (creator of The fugitive, The Invaders, Cannon, etc and Quinn Mallory from Sliders and they are both male.
Ronnie- male=Ronald, Female= Veronica.
My grandparents had three children…
Jerry, Davy and Kim. All girls. The stories of being drafted, boys gym, etc are endless.
We have three Geri/Jerry/Jerry’s at work, old Jerry, young jerry, and girl Geri.
I can’t keep any of the Madison, Morgan, Taylor trendy last name as first name crap straight. Then I went and named my daughter Kate, only to find out everyone names their child Katelyn and calls them Kate/Katie, so now I have to consider calling her her middle name (carson) because she will have so many Kate/Katie’s in her class.
Lisa Marie
(Born suspiciously close to Lisa Marie Presley and had 7 other Lisa’s in one class.
How about Kyle? I’ve known two. One male, who I met in college, who lamented that he had a “female” name but was somewhat redeemed by some football player.
then shortly after graduation I worked with Kyle, female, who actually insisted to people that her name was pronounced “KylA,” on account of otherwise it sounded like that football player.
All the Shannons I know east of the Mississippi are male. All the Shannons I know west of the Mississippi are female.
There was a writer in the early part of the 20th century named Tiffany Thayer. Male. Every other Tiffany I’ve ever heard of = female.
The first Hilary I knew (an old guy) was male–in case it didn’t come through from the phrase “old guy.” The second one was in 4th or 5th grade with me and was female & thought she had a boy’s name. Mystery writer Sarah Caudwell created a sleuth named Hilary and never said (and apparently never indicated in any way) whether Hilary was male or female.
Weird…my grandfather’s name is Hilary, and I thought he was the only male Hilary out there. Didn’t know it was more commonly unisex.
I wouldn’t change it. There were a lot of people in my school with my name–hell, there were a string of four of us in a row on my block. There was Susie (from Susanne), a grade below me, Suzie (from Suzanne) (me), Susie (from Susan), my grade and my best friend, and Susie (from Sue), a grade above. Then there was Lisa (my grade), whose older sister was Sue (from Suzanna). We none of us got too warped. It was a lot of fun when we were all playing on late summer afternoons and somebody’s mother yelled, “Sooo-zeeee!!!”
Now to make this relevant to the OP. In college I did some original research, and I turned up a judge from the late '30s/early '40s named Sue K. Hicks. I though, Aha! The first female judge! But Sue K. Hicks was … a man. Boy what a downer that was. (Yes, I do try to imagine how he must have felt.) So he and the hero of the Johnny Cash song make two boys named Sue, unless the song was inspired by Da Judge.
…ok i’ve seen my two …uhh… make that three names…
Devon(devin), Cameron and Danny (though i go by daniel)
With devon I typically think Devon is male; Devin is female…mine is male and called Devo by me…
Cameron is “The Caminator” (HS freshman hockey player with an 8th grade HS varsity letter,RW and center; D if’n you need him there)
So far nobody mentioned a “Boy named Sue” …names are names…spell mine wxyz0123 but pronounce it Daniel and I’m cool with that sillieness.
…Oy Vey… :smack: …proofing is a must. :o
My deepest regards for the man in black, RIP.
Back on topic…Casey…Casidy…Morgan …Schuyler(sp?)
[bolding mine] By “proofing” do you mean “reading the post above yours”?
Damnit…I hate in when your right… :o
oh well…BTW…at work I feel like i’m at maggies too
peace, lovce and whatever helps you find them both,

Dale.
Funny story – although I’ve always been called “Larry,” my first name is actually “Dale.” The first I ever heard of it was when I was four or five and had a little playmate over. Her name was “Dale,” which prompted my mum to point out that my name was “Dale,” too.
I was mortified to learn that I had a girl’s name.
Since then, the Dales that I’ve met have been pretty evenly distributed amongst the sexes, although a quick Google seems to indicate that there’s a preponderance of male Dales.
Jamie Lee Curtis (hence the rumours)
At my school we have a female student assistant named Jordyn. I have nieces named Hunter and Tierny and a nephew named Birkley. My name is Carmen, which can be for a girl or a boy.
My dad’s middle name is Beverley. It’s quite common in our family.
When I get “Gillian” with a hard ‘g’ it sounds like a guy’s name, which adds a whole extra layer of indignation, but I think “Gillian” is pretty much a girl’s name.
