Huh. I’ve never understood why people hate Valentine’s Day so much. When I was single, I didn’t sweat not having a partner, I just gave stuff to my friends or something. I like celebrating holidays, Valentine’s is a Holiday, so why not? I don’t get people hating it and I also don’t get people expecting it to be the best most romantic day in the world. Mr. Olives and I are going out to dinner. Our Valentine’s Gift to each other was Season 7 of the Simpsons on DVD. I have a terrible cold. So we’re going to eat some fancy dinner and then watch DVDs. I love and appreciate him every day–the only real difference between today and other days is we can sort of justify eating at a fancy restaurant, which is fun to do. That’s what I think holidays are for–enjoying time with people you already love and cherish on a daily basis, and getting away with as much as you possibly can on the grounds that “it’s a holiday.” Seriously, people–chill out. (not really directed at anyone in particular in this thread or the OP–just wondering why people freak out about V day so often. I just don’t get it.) ---

Both men and women can be plenty manipulative and two-faced, but it’s not because someone made them act that way. Grownups seem to have no problems getting that way all on their own. Uh oh! Somebody didn’t get a Valentine. I couldn’t wait for the personal attacks to start. Now I’m all disappointed because the anticipation is over. Thanks a lot for ruining it, Jetgirl. Will you be my Valentine if I grow the fuck up? I promise to be yours if you read all the way to the end of my post to see that I admit my use of stereotypes as gender jabs is wrong, and stuff. One of my favorite Married…With Children episodes is the one where Al and Jefferson are duking it out with all the other hubbies for the last minute Valentine’s gifts. Ah, I’m glad I’m in Korea now. The female gives gifts to the males on Valentine’s Day. That gives me a whole month to reciprocate on White Day (March 14th), so named because the traditional gift is white chocolate. ---

I scored three boxes of chocolate and a movie invite from a cutie. Sorry, everybody, but I`m 27 and while I`ve dated before I`ve spent every single fucking Valentine`s Day in my life with no girl and no immediate prospects, so I`m bragging now. At one time, I was living in the US and had a boyfriend. One Saturday we’re meeting to go to a movie and he comes with this puppy look and saying he’s so sorry he forgot and _I had no idea what the blazes was he talking about!_ Once I got it through his head that if he’d forgotten anything, I must have forgotten it too, he said “you’re not mad I missed Valentine’s?” _blink_ :dubious: _think_ 😕 _¿qué carajo?_ :dubious: OOOOOOOOH! “Oh, ¡San Valentín! Uh, no, in Spain it’s not very celebrated and at home we used St George’s, it’s the traditional day.” Dude could have saved himself a ton of anguish. The other American bf with whom I happened to share a St. Valentine’s had asked beforehand if I wanted to do anything special, I’d explained it’s no big deal to me, he felt like doing something, so the Saturday before we spent some time riffling through a Hallmark’s (but didn’t buy anything) and then we had dinner sitting down at a Chinese instead of grabbing something at the mall’s food court.
