When you think of the decade of the 1950s, what product comes first to your mind? Go ahead and list others, too, but highlight the first.

Please tell us your general age and in what country or state live, too.

I am a photographer. Born in early 1960s in USA, grew up in TX and CA

Age: 64

The hula hoop. It was the earliest fad toy I remember.

Davy Crockett was an earlier fad I believe, and I was big on Davy so I’m told, but I remember being told that rather than the specifics of the incidents myself.

**Yo-yo**. Second choice: hula hoop.

Age 72. Tennessee (earlier Alabama).

Hundreds more products, but I had a thread on yo-yo recently, so that. 😉

Cool spinoff thread idea!

USA, 44 years old. Another for Brylcreem. It was invented in the 1920s and is still sold, but I associate it with the 1950s.

My second thought was Rock ‘n’ Roll, but it’s not quite a ‘product’ as I normally use that word. Third was Burma-Shave.

I’ve read Black and White TV really took off in the 1950s (while the 1960s was the age of the Color TV).
