# What percentage of marijuana smokers are also cigarette smokers? Per the title what’s the overlap in the cohort of regular or occasional marijuana smokes also being regular or occasional cigarette smokers. Do the usage habits tend to stand alone or coverage? Any stats on this? ---

I haven’t smoked pot in years, but when I did my friends who were fellow smokers told me I was the only pot smoker they knew who didn’t also smoke cigarettes. I currently know a high percentage of pot smokers who smoke cigarettes. No actual stats however, this is all anecdotal. ---

Are we counting marijuana/tobacco blends as cigarettes or joints? My brother is a pretty big pothead, and I know he occasionally smokes blends as well, but he doesn’t smoke regular cigarettes. ---

I’d count blends as both. You can smoke either of them separately, but if you smoke blends, you smoke tobacco & dope. ---

In Europe, the custom is inexplicably to combine tobacco with cannabis for smoking, rolled together in the same joint. Ew. ---

Back in the day, very few of the people I knew who smoked pot smoked cigarettes. Of course, most of us were older. I was around a lot of early-20’s people on my last job and an inordinate number of them smoked cigarettes, so among the ones I knew smoked pot, the correlation was over 90%. ---

I know lots of social pot smokers. None of us smoke cigarettes. YMMV ---

Almost all of the people I know who smoke either way, do one but think the other is disgusting. However my best friend does both. I guess he is the exception to the rule. ---

This is similar to my experience: in my teens and twenties, everyone who smoked pot smoked cigarettes (and to a large extent, vice versa). In my mid-thirties, that has changed, and no one I know who smokes pot smokes cigarettes. That might have to do with my moving and getting new friends, however. ---

Nicotine changes the marijuana smoker’s perception of the high. Opinion is divided on whether they enjoy the change or not. Some users mix their marijuana with tobacco to achieve the effect, while others simply smoke a cigarette afterwords. ---

The number of tobacco smokers is going down amoung pot smokers just like in the general population. I know a lot of pot smokers who used to smoke cigarettes, but very few who do now.
