# What relatively common name creates in you an unfair negative impression of some innocent kid?

For me, it’s any of the vocation names: Cooper, Hunter, Palmer, Tucker, Harper, Parker, Fletcher, and Sawyer always rub me the wrong way.
In girls, I immediately dislike anyone named Skyler / Skylar.

To be fair, I would say that a vast majority of parents using those names do not know the vocational origins (aside from Hunter). They just like the sounds of them, and are following current trends.
I say this because our daughter’s husband named their dog “Cooper” and ask about his barrel making prowess. Son-in-law, who is very bright educated widely-travelled etc, did not understand the reference.

Surname-as-First-Name gives me more of an impression about the _parents_ being a bit precious. That sometimes may translate to upbringing issues but not necessarily. So I don’t hold it against the kid.

Caitlin, Kaitlyn or other cutesy spelled variations. Basically, any mashup name. Also, very alternate spellings of a normal name (Jacksyn). However, to be fair to people with names like that, my negative impression has more to do with their parents.

A friend of mine in high school dated a girl whose actual name was “Bunny”. And she looked just like someone a Hollywood producer/perv would cast as a character with that name. I really felt sorry for her.

Gavin or Brett. The names of two bullying, rough, disruptive little brats from grade school. Totally unfair to all perfectly nice people with those names of course. But burnt into my brain nonetheless.
