Urdu: _ma Ko yaad karo_, means “go remember your mother” meaning go think of her in a sexual manner.

The expression isn’t something a kid could “get away with saying”, but:

a) Norwegians don’t have the same fear of profanity in media as Americans appear to have.
b) The word “drit” by itself isn’t consider quite as vulgar as “shit” is in American English.

Huh, that’s far too mild. That translates as “Piss off!”

The classical\* version is “[Leck mich am Arsch](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swabian_salute)!” which translates to Lick my arse. (The politer version is “Lecken Sie mich am Arsch”, although politeness at that point is rather useless.

The milder version is “Rutsch mir/ Rutschen Sie mir den Buckel runter!” (Slide down my back, but understood as an euphemism for arse-licking).

“Hurensohn” is literally the son of a whore. (no daughters, though). It’s used as a general insult though, with the meaning of “you’re an idiot”.

- Made popular by the famous J.W.v.Goethe in Götz von Berlichingen, of course.

I think that’s less being German and more trying to recognize the Presidents office and the person of the president; the former, deserving respect, the latter, being an arsehole.

Didn’t the majority of Yank Dopers say that the POTUS deserves to be treated with respect regardless of how they disagree with him?

Also, swearing/ insulting in the Bundestag carries a penalty.

Yep, Fischer was banned from two sessions of Parliament. The street I live in is named for Kurt Schumacher (former president of the Social Democrats) who was actually banned from twenty sessions for calling Konrad Adenauer a “chancellor of the allies”

It also means “to fall”, I don’t know whether this is the origin of the expression.

We also have the useful and very satisfying expression of “sodemieter op” which literally translates as “bugger off” and is similarly satisfying to utter at the right circumstances.

I didn’t choose that because in actual Swabia, unlike the rest of Germany, it’s used mainly not as an insult but as an interjection indicating surprise: _Ja leck mich am Arsch, Du hast ja recht!_ = Lo and behold, you are right after all!

In my book, “drit og dra” isn’t swearing, it’s something you could safely say in front of your grandmother. Actually, Norwegian kids are much more likely to be cursing their little heads off in English. “Shit” and “fuck” are very commonly used, and they are somehow seen as less offensive than actual Norwegian swearwords.

My favourites:

“Sug deg” (lit. suck yourself)
“Sug en elg” (lit. suck a moose)
“Hestkuk” or “hestpeis” (horse’s penis), “hestfett” (horse’s vagina) - commonly used up north, where they’re not considered all that offensive. Calling a policeman a hestkuk in southern Norway will get you in trouble, though.

Polish: spierdalaj sie. (“Go fuck yourself.”) Useful to help illuminate the reflexive construction in the language. (It’s the _sie_ part that makes it something you’re doing to yourself.) Roughly, you’d say “spyer-DAH-lai shewng.”

You fail to take into account that there are many different dialects in Spanish. The same words in one can mean something totally different in another. Cabron has many different meanings in México. Cuckold is not one of them.

IMO to say something equivalent but not literal to “go f yourself” in México you could say “vete (mucho) a la chingada”.

The worst insult in my country is “chinga tu madre”.

I’m aware that there are many different dialects in Spanish, and slang varies enormously between countries. “Cabron” means cuckold in many places, including [Mexico:](http://www.mexicoguru.com/mexican-slang-meaning.php?date=080114)

In fact, the origin of the word as an insult is the association of the he-goat with the traditional [“horns” of the cuckold](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuckold). It’s kind of odd if this original meaning has been lost in some parts of Mexico.

I am Mexican. Born and lived here for all of my nearly 60 years. Sorry if I don’t take your cite seriously.

[http://www.jergasdehablahispana.org/?pais=M%E9xico&palabra=cabr%F3n&submit=Buscar&tipobusqueda=1](http://www.jergasdehablahispana.org/?pais=M%E9xico&palabra=cabr%F3n&submit=Buscar&tipobusqueda=1)

The word used in México for cuckold is _guey_ which comes from _buey_ and among its many meanings means steer or a castrated bull. Hence the man whose wife cheats on him.

That was about what I came in here to say. IMHO though, I would say _pok gai_ is actually fairly mild. It is a swear word, but certainly milder than _diu lei lo mo_. Sometimes it is also minced as simply ‘PK’. Therefore, I always find it amusing that someone chose to call their company ‘pkware’ and their software ‘pkzip’. 😃

That was the only site I could find that I could link to. As I’ve pointed out, the origin of the term “cabron” as an insult in the first place is from its meaning as “cuckold.” I’ll accept that in your personal experience the word is not used in that sense in at least some parts of Mexico; I’m just using the link to demonstrate that your opinion is not universal. Given its long historical roots and its widespread use in other countries, I’m skeptical that it’s _never_ used in that sense in any part of Mexico.

In terms of it’s general use in Spanish in the sense of cuckold I’ll cite _Diccionario de Argot_, by Delfin Carbonell Bassett (McGraw-Hill, 2001):

1. _hombre cuya mujer es infiel_

Multiple examples are given from the works of C. J. Cela, Luis Maria Anson, Miguel Martin, and others, back to 1611.

Also:
_Collins Spanish Dictonary_ (in which “cuckold” is the first meaning given for the word);
_Cassell’s Spanish Dictionary_;
and C_assell’s Colloquial Spanish: A Handbook of Idiomatic Use_.
All give “cuckold” as one of the meanings of “cabron.”

I’d compare the use of the word “schmuck” in the US. To many people it just means “asshole” or “idiot,” even though the original source of the word as an insult is its Yiddish meaning of “prick.” Just because most people use it in the sense of idiot, it doesn’t mean the word doesn’t actually mean prick.
