Didn’t one of the investigators say that Harris practically had an armory going on in his parents garage? How could the parents possibly miss this?
Maybe I’m thinking of another case.

I don’t remember the specifics of Harris’ gun collection, the number or the location. However, as I have pointed out before, gun ownership is common in Colorado. A number of my friends grew up in households with a large number of guns. There are lots of people on this very board who have posted in relevant threads that they personally own a lot of guns.
Depending on a lot of different factors, the number of guns may or may not have been unusual. Some families have guns around, sometimes a lot of guns.
I wouldn’t be really surprised to hear my younger brother’s name on the news someday. He’s mentally unstable and refuses to be treated. He’s the stubbornest person I know and nothing we’ve done over the years has helped.
He was hospitalized while in high school, but even then it was voluntary. If he had refused, I don’t know what we could have done.
My mother has finally cut off contact because he kept hassling her for more and more money. He’s great at emotionally blackmailing her, but it doesn’t work with my sisters or I. OK, if you are going to kill yourself, please let us know where to pick up the body – unfortunately, giving in to the blackmail doesn’t help him in the long run.
Anyway, if I knew he was planning on doing anything violent, I’d document it the best I could and talk to the police as well as his doctors. Make copies of his journal or whatever. If he is shown to be a threat to society, he can be committed.
There are limits to what can be done, but you are doing him, yourself and society a favor.
Hate to be contrary (well, not really) but the sister of a friend of mine essentially did everything wrong in raising her kids. Lax, indifferent parenting, no structure, no discipline, benign neglect. Unstable home life mixed with a wacky diluted hippy/new age do whatever you want, or don’t do anything at all attitude.
Much to my utter amazement, the oldest son, whom I was terrified of, turned out not too horrible bad after a stint in the US Army.
This kid was having full melt down tantrums up to age 13. He was indifferent a few years later when a buddy of his sexually assaulted his younger sister. (BTW, she is an uncontrolled short cycle bipolar, and the sex thing did not appreciably screw her up any further than she already was). He was cruel to animals and scared most every one he met.
Much to his mothers shock and dismay, he did and said what he had to to get in the army. I figured he would get shot for killing an officer or something. Well, it turned out the kid knew the army had the biggest thing for him his upbringing lacked; discipline.
Yeah, it was hard for him. And even now that he is out, he is a deeply flawed person.
But he is not a serial killer, or a bank robber, or a terrorist.
He is an immature, lax parenting, jerk.
MUCH to my surprise . . .
It’s tough. There’s some kids that go through phases where you think they’re going to go bad, and then they turn out just fine. I met one kid who was pretty much insane. It turns out she was just eating too much sugar. Controlling her sugar fixed everything. It’s almost impossible to guess who’s going to become truly dangerous and who’s not.
But, let’s say I was relatively certain my kid was the antichrist. They could call rats and crows to do their bidding, animals would mysteriously die near them, they had the mark of the beast, numerous psychics could feel it, he fulfilled several of the 7 signs, etc. etc. etc. If I was absolutely, positively sure that they were the evil, I’d probably give them a good spanking.
If breaking into cars correlated with subsequently going on a pointless killing rampage so well that the latter following the former was unsurprising, there would be few people left alive. Your post is drivel.
