What shows should I see on my next Vegas trip?

The only marquee shows I’ve seen in Vegas were Penn & Teller and David Copperfield, and I can recommend them both, but that’s already been covered.

A word of advice; if you do go to see Copperfield, don’t book a seat at one of the front row tables. They’re literally pushed up right against the stage so that you have no legroom, and he goes out into the audience so often that you’ll spend much of the show trying to crane your neck back and forth like a fool. Get a seat in the second row booths or in the front of the bleachers - that way you have a better chance of getting called onstage for one of the illusions.

Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur are all physically connected by indoor catwalks that cross over the streets between them (and from there you can get to NYNY and MGM Grand by uncovered catwalks), so they do kind of blend together.

First of all, many thanks for all the kind and thoughtful replies and suggestions.

From the sound of thing, it’s hard to go too far wrong with “O”, “Mystere”, “Ka” or “La Reve”. I’ll throw them all out the group and try to reach a consensus.

I’ve got not problem with raunchy humor if it’s cleverly done. It needs to be done intelligently and precisely as a surgeon uses a scalpel. There needs to be a deeper meaning and often some flavor of social/political commentary. Without that it just descends into a bunch of frat boys yelling “BOOBIES!” and hoping for shock value. I see no reason to pay for that.

I saw those shows listed and they both look very nice. I’ve put them on my list as second tier choices.

Has anyone here seen either The Book Of Mormon or Evil Dead: The Musical? These are both highly interesting to me and I’d like to know if they’re worth seeing. Evil dead in particular, how familiar do you have to be with the source material to enjoy the play. I love the movie but I’m probably the only one in my group that has seen it.

Is the Mob Museum worth seeing? Henry Mohney’s Erotic Museum? The exhibit with all the preserved, partially dissected human bodies? What other museums and or displays would you suggest?

Don’t miss the Pinball Museum!

Absinthe located outside of Caesars is very cool. Much more intimate Cirque show. We’ve seen 3 Cirque shows and they are good, but I wasn’t blown away. Penn and Teller is also very cool.

I saw the book of Mormon on NYC. It’s a lot of fun.

O is breathtaking. I also really enjoyed La Reve, but it’s not actually a Cirque show (presumably you don’t care?) I also saw Ka and Mystere but don’t quite recall which is which

The Mob Museum is interesting, but it involves a lot of reading, and the interactive exhibits were far too crowded for me to interact with when I went. Still worth a visit.

Bodies (which is located at the Luxor, and you get a discount on admission if you buy a pass to the Titanic exhibit at the same time) is not for the squeamish, but I found it highly educational and fascinating.

If you like animals, the shark reef at Mandalay Bay and the Siegfriend & Roy dolphin & big cat habitat at the Mirage are both fun.

Absinth is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. But the whole theme of the show is an old-timey, seedy, low rent traveling circus. The performances are really cool acrobatics seemingly from a different time period, strongmen, people balancing on chairs, ect. The MCs, carrying on with the seedy theme, are quite raunchy, racial, sexual. Hearing “cock” and “cunt” is pretty much the norm.

Has anyone seen Mat Franco? My Sister-in-Law thinks she may be able to get a good deal on that show.

Indeed! How can you ever get enough of P&T? They are the most accomplished entertainers in LV today. I don’t know if it’s more accurate to call them entertainers or magicians. But, they do two amazing things in their show:

  1. You won’t notice this until it’s over. But during the course of their show, your jaw increasingly lowers and lowers until by the end, you are slack-jawed and agape.

  2. They always leave you wanting more.
You might never expect that from two men that look like P&T. But, when it comes to entertainers, P&T are just the cream of the crop. I can never get enough of them.
