What soap operas did you watch, and when did you watch them?

Currently, I’m not keeping up with any soap! Well, I catch occasional glimpses of General Hospital, but frankly I don’t have any character(s) that I care about on there right now other than Alexis and Cameron, who TPTB have quite shamefully neglected. :frowning:

In my hey day, though, I watched: General Hospital, One Life to Live, All My Children, The Doctors and Days of our Lives. I think “The Doctors” was my favorite and was very unhappy when it was cancelled–plus, there was absolutely no closure with the show! :frowning:

I stopped watching OLTL way back in 73, I think, when Meredith died. I stopped watching AMC around 75, when Jeff’s wife (the nurse, I can’t think of her name now, was it Mary?!) got killed. Many of these shows I started watching when I was in jr. high/high school, then really got obsessed with while in college, but then gradually weaned myself from them. Many times, it was when a favorite character either died or was no longer central to the plot. GH I just gradually stopped watching. DOOL I watched on and off over the years–I had my faves on there, but then I would get new folks that I liked. I stopped watching DOOL, though, when Marlena became posessed with the Devil. That was just -too- much. The last 5 years or so, I’d been watching GH and Port Charles. As PC went big time into the supernatural, I stuck with it (in fact, almost to the end), but that was really too much too, unfortunately.

Ah soaps! Ya gotta love them to actually hate em.

I used to watch GH when Robin and Stone were dealing with his AIDs and Brenda and Sonny and Miguel (Ricky Martin) were all entangled. Amber Tamblyn who is now getting raves for Joan of Arcadia was an orphan adopted by the Quartermaines and Lucky who was played by Jonathan Jackson were both faves. Then it started to get shitty.

In order…

  1. Eastenders I watched this until BBC America stopped carrying it a few weeks ago. Bastards.
  2. Casualty *
  3. Prisoner Cell Block H *

*Watched them when I was living in London

My mom watched General Hospital when I was a kid. One of my earliest memories is Laura’s Mom, Lesley, hiding the gun in the toilet (It was taped to the underside of the tank lid). This has been rattling around in my psyche for over 30 years!

In high school and college, I was addicted to Days of Our Lives… I even arranged my classes around it! I loved Santa Barbara and hated to see it go. :frowning:

I was addicted to Santa Barbara when I was in junior high and high school. That’s the only soap I ever even remotely had an interest in.

Eastenders, Coronation Street (if I get the chance). I will sometimes watch Casualty if it is on. I used to watch Santa Barabara with my mum, who is a major soap junkie. There’s a few Indian ones that I watch as well, again when I get the chance - Kkusum, Devi, and Henna.
