Nine Days - Absolutely (Story of a girl). I love this song. Just listen to the song, mybe you’ll see what I mean.

I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing by Aerosmith. I got my first kiss to that song. And lots of other kisses too.
Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Greenday. They play this song at the end of every USY convention and dance, and it almost never fails to make me cry because it means everything is over.
Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues. This is the song that my boyfriend turned on when we were making out and we couldn’t concentrate while listening to Eminem. He was eating me out and I couldn’t stop singing Stan.
In that vein, Stan by Eminem. That same boyfriend took me to the Up in Smoke concert. We both love Eminem, and that song nearly made us both cry.
Don’t ask me why, but for my its Como La Flor by Selena, ¿Y Tú, Que Has Hecho? from the Buena Vista Social Club album, and no one is going to believe this but…
Love Makes The World Go Round, by the Powerpuff Girls.
Oh, I nearly forgot. These are songs that never fail to make me smile. They were my camp songs. We changed the words of them all around. I miss camp…
I Will Survive - Color War song
At first I was afraid, I was petrified,
knowing the green blue and yellow teams
were no longer on our side…
Big Red Gum Song - 'Nother Color War Song
The big red devils fight right through it
Our ruach goes on and on while we do it
So let’s play a little longer let’s fight a little stronger
We’ll win this color war…With Big Red!
I Think We’re Alone Now
We’ve got HUSY Camel.
She was visiting Ein Gedi
but she’s coming home now.
Arvot sub region we’ve got all the ruach
and we’re not gonna stop now…
OK, I realized that a lot of stuff in that last post probably makes no sense. I sometimes take for granted that everyone is in USY and/or knows hebrew.
Ruach-hebrew for spirit
HUSY-Hanegev (south) USY (United Synagogue Youth)
HUSY Camel-A big ugly stuffed camel that is our mascot and the three subregions compete to win.
Ein Gedi-The part of our rregion including Atlanta. The subregion that won the camel last year.
Arvot-My sub region. South Florida. We won HUSY this year.
Hope that clears things up. It probably didn’t.
Anything by Alejandro Sanz gets me to tear up if I’m in that type of mood. It’s just all those love songs and the idealistic wish that “real guys” could be like that.
Kitty
JackBatty’s in the Pacific.
Coldfire’s in the North Sea.
Monster104’s in his dog’s water dish.
Man, me and Celine are on a roll!
The Green Day song was on the episode of ER when the big head doctor guy’s son died, and the nurse that’s HIV positive that had been taking care of him sang it acapella at the Quaker rememberance service… I was never an ER or a Green Day fan, but it was very, very well done.
Rasa- do you mean Time of Your Life? (It’s something unpredictable/but in the end it’s right/I hope you had the time of your life…)
Crush by Dave Matthews Band is mine and quietgirl’s song. Also of some import are Arrow by Cheryl Wheeler and this english folk song that goes like this:
There was an old woman tossed up in a basket/19 times as high as the moon/and where she was going I couldn’t but ask it/for in her hand she carried a broom
Old woman, old woman, old woman said I/oh wither, oh wither, oh wither so high/to sweep the cobwebs from the sky/shall I go with thee, high by and by?/shall I go with thee high by and by.
We made up harmony for that one…
Oh, and Secret Garden by the Boss.
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls (I…don’t know …why!!!)
When I Drown - VENT (Ooooooh yeeeeaaaaa)
Failure Takes Me - By… Me! (Yep, I wrote it. Got a problem? No? I didn’t think so!)
Ike/ruadh/et al.,
There just is something about a lot of Irish/Celtic melodies that gets me, protest song or no. I have to be careful listening to the Pogues in the car because of all those ravishing melodies Shane and the guys stole from O’Carolan. I tear up equally to “Fairytale of New York” and “Broad Majestic Shannon”, so I’m pretty sure it’s not the lyrics. And then there’s “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”, “A Pair of Brown Eyes”, etc.
The Band’s “It Makes No Difference” used to do it for me in high school and college, but I haven’t heard it in years, so I don’t know if it still has the same effect.
Dennis Leary’s Asshole song…it’s so true! sniff
Oh, yeah. I first heard that song while in the midst of a particularly difficult breakup, and now I can’t even listen to it without being right back in that moment. Not a feeling or a memory, but right freaking THERE.
“Winter” by Tori Amos. Melancholy, but not without a comforting fluffy-blanket quality. No story or anything as to what it means to me. Just makes me feel squishy, is all.
I am a music person. I work in music. So this is a big question for me.
“This Masquerade” by George Benson
I lost my virginity to it, by decision. Listen to it . . . you will understand
oh Grace, just hold me in your arms,
and let this moment linger,
They take me out at dawn, and i will die,
With all my love I place this wedding ring upon your finger,
there wont be time to share our loive, so we must say goodbye.
that song is extremely squishy.
the one that does it for me is “I’ve been loving you too long” by Otis Reading. ah, so many memories…
<glub> - whoa, the Elbe river is cold this time of year.
My squishy song: “It’s after dark now” by D:A:D.
The very first kiss from a very special girlfriend (now ex, but still a friend), at the starlit night of my 30th birthday - yup, “squishy” is exactly the word. <long melancholic sigh>.

Without You by Harry Nillson (NOT Mariah Carey)
And, I’m ashamed to say it, While She Lays Sleeping by Kenny Rogers. Actually brings back happy memories of the ex-husband. He is a musician and used to play our piano when he got home at 2 or 3 in the morning from a gig. I’d wake up and come sit at his feet and lay my head in his lap.
I really like older U2, mostly 1990 or older. Songs like PRIDE, Sunday Bloody Sunday. Simple Man by Lynard Skynard (that’s really me). Tears In Heaven, the circumstance behind the song. Silent night, I don’t know why, it just does.
