**MEN don’t swoon!** We just kinda get all gooshy and mellow inside, weak kneed and nostalgic. ‘Oh What A Night’ – Reminds me of the very, very pretty, tiny little red haired lady I knew years ago and whose Peace Symbol earring – left behind by her – that is on my key ring today. It’s been there for 26 years, though I don’t know where she is. ‘Stones’ by Neil Diamond – Which reminds me of a dark eyed, long haired, pixie nosed lady who smelled of Herbal Essence shampoo, gave me my first joint, wore granny skirts, introduced me to waterbeds and was gentle and beautiful. ---

Swoon, I dunno, but there’s a few songs that can even get mr. Coldfire kind of misty. Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms (Partially because it was played at a funeral of my uncle’s boyfriend) Don Henley - Boys of Summer (Call it what you want, but this is still the ultimate “Summer Love” song to me) I’ll second Dolly Parton’s version of “I will always love you”. But leave Whitney Houston out of this. Beethovens IXth. (If the sung part [lyrics by Schiller] doesn’t send shivers down your spine, nothing ever will. I can recommend my version, by the Berliner Philharmoniker.) “Alle Menschen werden Brueder sein.” ---

It’s mostly the really sad songs that really get to me…my picks: Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls Name - The Goo Goo Dolls (especially when I had 7th row seats at a concert, and John Rzeznik looked directly at me and flashed that smile during this song. _sigh_) Wicked Game - Chris Isaak When I Fall in Love - ??? I have a physical reaction (weepy eyes, kind of a shivery feeling up my spine) to the melody of the Pogues/Kirsty MacColl song “Fairytale of New York”. Love the lyrics, too, but it’s the melody that does it to me. “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” has a similar effect. For some reason, The Band’s “It Makes No Difference” also gets to me. ---

I almost forgot. **Hotel California** brings to mind a certain, mysterious, beautiful and wonderful lady from years ago. Dark hair, dark eyes and a fluid walk that has to be seen to be believed, with a gentle smile almost esoteric in appearance. Smallish, pert breasts, gentle hips, soft hands, and the outward appearance of knowing calm and caring understanding. My major regret is that when I met her, I was far, far to immature to know how to act. If I met her then, knowing what I do now, things might have turned out spectacularly different. She slipped away from me and my world has not been the same since. After all of these years, after all of the women I’ve known, the places I have been and the things I have done, - some good, some bad, - I can still feel \*her \* warm, wonderful embrace when I think about it, in her front room on Rock Road, Fort Pierce, Florida back in the very early 70s. **I was such an ignorant ass!** ---

Thanks, P-girl, you’ve given me a good excuse to listen to some o’ the good ones again (the ones that “classic rock” radio hasn’t murdered through constant repition that is). Purely coincidentally, I found a chart for “Waterlow” by Mott the Hoople today, and when I haltingly tried to play it, it was almost too much–not a specific broken heart for me, but kind of all of them rolled into one!
