now I have some videogame and movie posters, but everyone makes fun of me and says they’re immature what is acceptable instead ---

My oldest son is 44 this year. He and his wife have an entire room dedicated to action figures, LOTR stuff (like swords), and movie posters of all this stuff. They’re total geeks when it comes to this sort of thing, and don’t give a crap what anyone may think of it. ---

I’ll bet that the people who are making fun of you are not mature adults. Everybody has something that they like, and everybody’s different. I have posters of music-related artwork, like Picasso’s “Old Guitarist” and Peter Max’s “Modern Jazz”. Can’t afford originals, so I get posters framed nicely. I know a guy who uses album covers (if you don’t know what an “album” is then I guess you’re young ;)) Put up whatever you makes you happy. ---

I like artwork, artifacts and things that reflect current and past passions I have or had. I try to limit it to small representations of the various things but still maintain some kind of form to a room. ---

I think what makes a difference is simply framing whatever you’ve got on the wall. Poster with no frame = teenager putting magazine foldouts up. Poster with frame = grownup. [The latest poster for my living room is the Periodic Table of Bowie](http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61znJ7L2OxL.jpg), and it got a red mat with silver frame before getting put up. ---

Decals of Disney princesses, Mickey Mouse, and Mario characters arranged in a scene (a pirahna plant is about to eat Donald!). A framed painting of an owl, and a cool wooden clock. I also have a chalkboard I got out of the little girl toy aisle that looks like a decorative mirror. This is the objectively correct way to be an adult and I will hear no arguments. ---

As others have said, what ever suits you. We have the stairway wall decorated with family photos. The picture over our Kitchen sink was painted by my Dad back in '53. Other stuff we have from family, or picked up at art festivals. We have some horse pictures that decorated my wifes bedroom when she was a kid. It all means something. Or other stuff, we just like. ---

I’m going to go against the grain and say that hanging up cheap posters is not something that most adults do. Whether it’s ‘okay’ is a decision only you can make, but IME most adults have decided that it’s not something they want to do. Adult things to hang up include art (which can be very cheap since art prices are only marginally related to quality) and possibly framed ‘artsy’ posters in a movie room or man cave. Other options are rugs, mirrors, bare walls, and furniture. ---
