I put this here because it’s poll-ish rather than a detailed discussion (for which “Great Debates” would be proper forum). Anyway, what spirituality/religion do you practice, how, and why? WRS - Seeking and finding the Divine. Where are You? ---

I think it would help, in the demographic sense, for people to post their age as well, that would be interesting. Me, I’m 19 and currently believe that there’s no way for me to know and that furthermore it doesn’t really matter what I think about the nature of the universe, so why waste time searching? Apathetic agnostic, I guess to sum it up. ---

34 y.o. male. Well trained, well versed, well practiced. That said, I’m not really working on it right now. As a fairly intelligent guy, I got the whole ‘died for my sins’ thing down the first 200 times I heard it. Having been a methodist/protestant attending a Catholic highschool, I REALLY don’t get that whole ‘religion based on guilt’ thing. ---

1. Male. Athiest/Agnostic. I still use “Ye gods!” and “The gods…” and usually pick on Thor for swearing. I did like one of the characters in a book I read who was a Satanist, but I don’t think saying “By SATAN, that was fun!” would go over well here in the South. ---

18, female, spiritual. I pretty much don’t fit into any catergories, so asking me _what_ spirituality I practice is kinda pointless, since even I can’t give you an anser to that. All I can say is I follow what is right for me. I suppose you could say that I’m new age. Me, I don’t really care. ---

18- female I went through that common process: nominally-(but-not-very)-religious, to doubting-religion, and then on to agnostic-and-almost-atheist, which is where I’m at now. I don’t see any evidence for the existence of god, so I can’t bring myself to believe in anything just yet. But I do see something divine (if that’s the right word) in human nature, and if I had to worship something, it would be humanity itself. I wouldn’t call myself spiritual, but I see something amazing in human consciousness and behavior; that the physics of the universe could create an animal capable of logic and outward examination is astounding to me. Recognizing that is a sort of ‘spiritual’ experience. Minus the ‘spirit’ part. ---

My own humble O… We live in a Spirtual world/universe/realm/whatever. This was decided a long time ago as expressed by Adam and Eve. We (mankind) basically told God, ‘thanks but no thanks, we will make it on our own’. Through tough love God allowed us to exist in a spirtual realm that we are ill suited for ever since. I feel that much ‘spirtualism’ is real but not nessecerally as we see/perceive it. Also God gives a way back to Him, but we much make this choice by ourselves. ---

26 - Male Up until I was about 14 years old I was Christian. At that age, I read a book about buddhism and that seemed to make a good deal of sense to me at the time, so I switched. It still makes sense now. ---

Raised liberal Protestant (Presbyterian USA to be specific, though I now find that my particular church and youth group was extremely liberal even outside the fundie denominations), reformed and discovered that I am an atheist Buddhist. Throw in a little Taoism and some paganistic tree-hugging tendencies, and that is my path. ---

30, male. I’m Catholic but my belief about God interacting with humanity is closer to that of a deist than traditional Christianity. Except for the occasional miracle, I don’t believe that God has much to do with this world. ---

Geezer-girl. Agnostic/Athiest. I’ve never seen any evidence supporting the existence of a god, and in fact, I see more evidence every day that there is no Christian-type god. I simply have no need for a placebo diety. ---

17, female, liberal Christian (American Baptist, but my church is kind of pissing off ABC at the moment on account of being too liberal). I’m getting baptized this Thursday. I have a sort of fear of other Christians that I’ve had ever since my church youth group went on a retreat with all these other Baptists and I realized that they were all really scary (to me). Said retreat is now referred to as “the scary retreat.” If I didn’t have the church I go to, I don’t know if I would be a Christian. I might have been scared away long ago.
