I’ve re-read them all so many times. I’m seriously looking forward to Black House. The Talisman has always been one of my top five SK novels.
So re-read The Talisman, The Stand, Misery, IT, or The Dead Zone. Or all of them!
It never fails, whenever I pick one up just “for a minute” 'cause I have nothing to read, I get sucked into the story and don’t come up for air again until I’m finished. He’s such a hypnotizing author.
I also cast my vote for “The Stand.” I like “The Green Mile,” too.
Most of his other work is somewhat disappointing to me, though. A lot of his endings are just lacking - he frequently fails at his own game of “Can You?” Not to mention the fact that I rarely care about any of the characters (“The Stand” and “The Green Mile” being the exceptions). That said, they are entertaining, if not riveting, to me, at least - which is how I’ve come to read so many of them.
And “Insomnia” was just plain bad. At least, the first third was. I didn’t read any farther than that.
I’m currently re-reading “The Stand” for the 3rd or 4th time. I highly recommend it.
I’m excited to know about the sequel to “The Talisman”. Thanks, Auntie Pam, I know I can count on you for some good SK news. I’m going to buy that book next to re-read, since my first read was using a loaner. Then I’ll be ready for the sequel.
The new issue of Cemetery Dance was full of King news, thanks to Bev Vincent, who is just the best at getting the word out about King’s doings. Trouble is, CD’s publishing schedule is a bit erratic, so some of Bev’s news isn’t news anymore by the time you read it in CD.
I didn’t know that the Hearts in Atlantis movie is already in the works! It’s due out this fall.
Well, AuntiePam, it’s funny you should say that. Because…I had a direct encounter with the LORD this morning.
Don’t laugh, damnit! I think the gods were telling me I should read The Shining. You see, I came home today and around eleven thirty started watching TV. I flip on TNT, see a familiar looking little kid- yup, Danny Lloyd! The movie (with some editing) was on. And I have been considering reading The Shining so I believe I should take this as a sign of some sort. I mean, its as though it was PLANNED- I just happened to be home early (exam that ended around nine), in time to see it. I have to respect fate.
Zoggie, no, I’m not. I thought the short stories in Strange Highways were quite good, but I’ve only managed to read one of his novels – the new one, From the Corner of His Eye.
I almost put it down – wait, let me be truthful – I almost threw it against the wall – by the second chapter. But then I figured if I was gonna keep bashing him, maybe I should read at least one of his novels all the way through.
Maybe I shouldn’t base an opinion on this little bit of reading, but I really, really don’t care for his books. He has millions of happy readers, and he’s supposed to be a really nice person, and he’s probably a fine writer, and I’m certainly no expert, so I should just shut up about him.
If you run out of King stuff, read George R. R. Martin or Joe Lansdale.
