What stereotypes have you found to not be true?

I’ve lived in Asia for almost 40 years and this is absurd.

I know plenty of bad drivers who were bad or average at academics.

This. And likewise, how much effort/energy you put into driving as an activity. Any schoolkid who’s very involved with academics and isn’t interested in road trips and driving around town is going to get way less practice in driving skills than their more car-conscious classmates.

Case in point: I, a bog-standard EuroAm-white ethnicity type person with no Asian heritage at all, am a crap driver. (Careful and law-abiding, mind you, and with a good record, but low skill and too hesitant.) I was, however, quite a dedicated (if mediocre) high school and college athletics participant, and have always done a lot of outdoor stuff.

However, I’ve never owned a car and I drive quite rarely. (And when I do drive, it’s almost always a car that I’m not at all familiar with.) I think that’s probably all that’s needed to account for my mediocre driving skills.
