That’s kind of the whole point of the rant. It **wasn’t** a miracle, and it wasn’t the oil, it was your heredity. You could have walked around in a vitamin E filled bubble for the entire nine months of your pregnancy and you _still_ would have gotten stretch marks if they were in your genetic makeup.

Shut the fuckup pucky. I’m sitting here with a broken hand thanks to an abusive husband, and I finally worked up the balls to throw the bastard out this week(thanks you guys…The SDMB had alot to do with it).

So kiss my ass. It wasn’t to be taken literally. And you know it.

Some men just need to be held down and hit repeatedly with hammers.

Lola has stretch marks and they do nothing to diminish her attractiveness. With her mocha colouring they look more like tiger stripes than anything else…

grrrrrrr!

Some is heredity and some can be prevented. You can gain 25 pounds when pregnant or you can gain 100, it makes a difference in whether you get stretch marks. If your skin is dry and non-elastic, then you are more likely to get them as well. The vitamin E oil does make a difference.

Oh. I see. So it’s okay to advocate domestic violence, just so long as you’re joking.

I, too, got stretch marks at puberty, on the inner section of my thighs…and when I showed them to my mother, she freaked out and wanted to show them to my father! I was thirteen at the time, and the only thing more embarrassing than what was happening to my body was SHOWING it to someone. Naturally, my father has yet to see any of the (now very faded) stretch marks. Sometimes I think my mom is a well-intentioned psychopath. 😃

My SO also has stretch marks on his arms, from losing/gaining/losing weight as a teenager…and they don’t seem to faze him any more than mine do.

The OP’s friend should be strangled, very slowly. And yes, **Pucky,** it’s OK to mention domestic violence, or any other kind of violence, as long as it’s obvious IT’S NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY. Geez.

Otherwise, if I were to tell my coworker–and I have–to KISS MY ASS, he would be forced to take it literally, and I would be forced to sue him for assault.

So I could tell that joke about why there are so many shelters for battered women – and no one would take offense, right?

Perhaps. And sometimes you can Vitamin E yourself silly and still get stretch marks - the whole point of studies is to prove this theory and so far, the results are to date inconclusive. Which doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t Vitamin E yourself silly - don’t know if it can do you any harm, but it isn’t conclusive that it will do any good whatsoever (at least as stretch marks go, it may make you feel better, and may make you feel better about the stretch marks you do get, believing they “could have been worse.” And anything that makes the average pregnant or newly post-partum woman feel better about her body isn’t bad.)

I’m not sure if you are implying that you can control weight gain while pregnant to prevent stretch marks. This is a case of usually you can (and should) control your weight, but sometimes the weight is something other than overeating (my water retention which was part of my pre-eclampsia, carrying multiples, etc.) and you can’t do anything about it except watch yourself turn into a beached whale, and hope that heredity (and body lotion/vitamin e/humidifiers/drinking lots of water/having your kids young, whatever) will keep you from the worst of the stretch marks.

Barring any unusual circumstances, a woman can control her weight gain during pregnancy. Your situation was different because of your medical problem, which sounds like hell.

No worries here, I don’t plan to squeeze out any more babies, so I’ll be fine and dandy.

And I still use that Vitamin E oil, it’s fab.

I used vitamin E oil when I was pregnant. I also took vitamin E supplements.

My stomach looks like a zebra.
