There’s a thin line between hair bands and drag queens - sorry you had to discover it so late. I used to (gulp) listen to Heart. But don’t be messing with Night Ranger. “Sister Christian” still makes me happy when it comes on the radio or shows up in film soundtracks. ---

god it sucks to get old! i look back at shit i was into in the 70’s and 80’s and its pretty embarrising! as a kid, i was deep into the kiss army. my old man used to dismiss it as a bunch of crap. (smart guy, my old man. too bad i didnt realize this until much later on) actually, some of the music wasn’t too bad, but the “paraphanalia” (i cant spell, and dont know how to use spell check on this site) was truly horrible. i really wonder what the youth of today is going to say (10 years from now)\_about the shit out there now? the “one hit wonder” and “where are they now?” episodes on VH1 (or whatever) is going to have alot to pull from during the 90’s and today. what really scares me is now i’m turning into an old fart who listens to “folky artsy crap”. like i say, it sucks to get old…(but it beats the alternative!) ---

Hey, you guys weren’t young - you just had bad taste! I was born in 1963. In the early 1970’s I was listening to the Beatles. Moved on to bands like Poco, The Eagles, Clapton, CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd… In the 80’s there was Rush, Molly Hatchet, more Clapton, Van Halen, Guns N’ Roses, R.E.M, The Tragically Hip… In the 90’s, we had more Guns N’ Roses (Use Your Illusion I and II are both pretty good), Pearl Jam, Matchbox 20, lots more Tragically Hip… And through it all were the long-term class acts like Clapton, The Allman Brothers, Warren Zevon, John Prine, The Stones, The Who… I can honestly say that I still like just about everything I liked then, and when CD’s came out I replaced almost all my albums with CD’s, and recently burned MP3’s of the rest of my albums so I could store the turntable. The closest to suckitude I hit was a brief flirtation with shmaltzy country rock like America, Steve Miller, and Wings. And all of them did decent songs amidst much suckage. ---

The truly sad thing about growing up with heavy metal hair bands is how it warps your sense of masculinity during your dopey teenage years. “Tights? Yeah, they’re gonna make the ladies drool.” “A mullet! Aw’right!” “This shirt looks like a zebra exploded. I’ll take it.” Yup, I’m glad I didn’t get to pick my own clothes in those years. Who knows what I’d have ended looking like. ---

I just wanna point out the Pink Floyd’s The Wall came out in 1981 (I think…)… so the era wasn’t a total waste. Just mostly…😉 ---

And all of this is why I just kept listening to King Crimson, Jeff Beck and Pentangle throughout the eighties. Eric Johnson is about as modern as I get. So much drivel has packed the music industry for so long someone has to hit me over the head with something new before I’ll even listen to it. ---
