By a technicality, this qualifies as a ‘cat thread’. It is therefore decreed that you post a better picture of Smitty. A face shot perhaps? Also, you WILL let us all know what the vet says, right? ---

It was an abscess. A little anti-biotics, some antibiotic cream and keeping it clean are all we need…and a little rest, but Smitty isn’t what you would call a “go-getter” anyway! ---

The posts in this thread just confirm me as a cat hater and strengthen my resolve to act as a black frost in my daughter’s garden of dreams when she finally asks for a kitty. Oozing bloody pus, indeed. :shudders: ---

I asked my roommate who is a bio major and also had cats at home. He says it’s the result of a catfight. That seems to tie in with the abcess votes. Sucks, but nothing to panic over. ---

At least in this case. I had a cat die from an abscess four years ago. We found it late one night, and took her in the next morning. They cleaned it up and gave us the medicines. Then, the following night, she started acting. . . spastic. By morning she was worse. We took her back–she actually died at the vet. The infection had already apparently gotten into her bloodstream and started spreading. It (the sight of her gradually deteriorating) was not a pretty sight. ---

But this is the 21st century people. Animals are nasty. They only animals that come inside my house enter in a grocery bag. ---
