What makes you think the Greek police won’t give him a kicking?
Now CBS Sports is saying that it is that guy.
How did they mistake an Irish fella for a Portugese?
White folk all look the same.
Catholicism? Love of potatoes?
I thought the Greeks spent a bazillion dollars on security??? The tutu-wearing jackass who jumped into the pool, and now this???
NBC has reported that Lima issued a statement to the effect that he does believe the nutjob cost him the gold, but that the bronze is also a great achievement. The Brazilian contingent has filed an appeal requesting a duplicate gold be given to Lima but the governing body says the results will stand. The IOC is awarding Lima the Pierre de Coubertin award for sportsmanship and fair play.
As I type this, NBC is reporting that Horan is apparently “unaffiliated with any political or terrorist group.” Unless of course you count the Catholic Church (as a political group that is).
That’s fantastic news. Glad he got a medal, too.
Grrrr. Cornholious needs locking up.
He’s Irish, lets not claim all of the nutjobs in the world for ourselves!
Anyone who thinks that running out in front of Grand Prix cars going at 200 mph is a good idea clearly has some problems…
Since he’s been defrocked, I don’t think you could count it anyways.
If they hurry, they can still publicly flog him at the closing ceremonies…
I like that idea.
Lima was still extending his lead as of the last interval when this asshole showed up. I really think he would not have been caught but he showed a lot of class in saying that the interruption did not affect the result cough bullshit cough
I just sat and watched the remainder of the race in shock. Who/What was the guy protesting against? People with good lung capacity? People with low body fat?
No, he really is proper crazy.
That was fucking insane. I’m just watching the end of the race here. FWIW, I think the incident cost him the gold. No way does that kind of thing not fuck your concentration all to hell. I hope they follow up on the punishment that fucking lunatic receives.
Lima is saying that the interference cost him the gold.
Lima is saying that it who knows how it would’ve ended, but it certainly would’ve been different. Which is mighty fair of him. Not only is Lima screwed, but in a way so is the winner, who now will also have people believe he didn’t deserve it. We will never know. Lima…extremelty classy. I think marathon runners have a ton of respect for each other and I think Lima wants to respect the Italian. In a weird way he is getting MORE attention than he might have ven if he had own. Goo for him!
Here’s some more information about the guy:
As I type this, they’re awarding the medals on my local broadcast. Lima looks properly happy winning the bronze medal.
Still, that whackjob ought to be locked up until after the next Summer Olympics. I don’t care what you’re protesting or demonstrating about – don’t interfere with the fragging race!
I just find it extremely sad that these athletes train and suffer for years before the Olympics for their 15 minutes of fame; which is so easily ruined. Lima had his ruined today by an ignorant moron. I would just like to also draw attention to all the other athletes who also had their moments soiled by other cheating athletes (everyone caught dopping), inept or bought judges (Kyle Shewfelt), or just poor sportsmanship (Paul Hamm).
Maybe at the closing ceremonies, they could snuff out the Olympic flame on Haron’s pants.
Idjit.
How about instead of accusing Paul Hamm of poor sportsmanship, you focus on the incompetence of the judges?
Paul Hamm didn’t create the rules. He shouldn’t even be involved in it at this point. He has said that if he is told to give up the gold medal, he will do so. However he doesn’t feel this is his decision to make. I think he has a valid point. If the Olympic Commitee wants to change the rules, it is up to them to do so. They all put him in a really shitty, no win situation.
Another point that has been made is if the Korean had actually been judged correctly, he would have received a .2 point deduction because he had too many hold moves during his parallel bars routine. This would have been a bigger deduction than were unintentionally deducted by not starting with the proper points in the first place.
If the judges are able to review tapes and make adjustments to their scores until they are so called “perfect”. I think the medal ceremony would finally take place a couple years from now.
The judges and the president of the International Gymnastics Federation (that weasely bastard who tried to convince Hamm to give up his medal to cover his ass and the sorry asses of his subordinates) should be ashamed of themselves. Hamm has absolutely nothing to apologize for.
The way I read the post you’re talking about, I thought Spezza meant that Paul Hamm was the victim of somebody else’s poor sportsmanship. Which is exactly what you’re saying.
