If this isn’t mundane and pointless… (the prior threads on this have been in this department rather than CS, so…) One wonders why Mr. Trump keeps this quaint relic of another time going on. Then you get the ladies to show up in the “National Costumes” and wonder why they don’t put THAT on the TV broadcast any more. Did my eyes decieve me or did one of the costumes feature a Virgin Mary? Miss GB obviously purchased her dress from some fetish store for reasons of economy. And one of the lovely ladies is wearing a saddle. ---

Why is the Argentinian dressed as if she was a carioca? And I realize Isabel has been an enormous success in Spain, but seriously, are “austerity measures” supposed to include reusing dresses from TV series for beauty contests? If we were doing to do that, at least we should have sent the series’ protagonist! (Biopic of Isabella de Castille. Them Tudors have nothing on our Trastamaras). Why is Miss Venezuela an autumn tree? Does she represent the damage the oil-drilling industry produces on forests or something? Is that an appropriately Bolivarian ensemble? Is there a reason Miss Kosovo is saddled up? I’ve mentioned these before; those of you who are enjoying the combination of engineering and glitter in some of those dresses may want to search for _tenerife reina carnaval_ - one of the rules is that “the dresses cannot have wheels, each regnal candidate must be able to walk in her dress unaided”. There’s houses simpler than some of those things. ---
