What time do you eat Thanksgiving?

We always eat at 3, because we have to be done before the Dallas game starts at 4. It’s my sister’s rule - I just do the cooking.

Two ovens helps, and we always make pies (and/or cobbler and/or apple crisp) the night before. Do most people not do this?

And generally eating at 2 or 3 does involve getting up 5ish, especially it it is a “big” year: my mom’s one of 12 kids, so if everyone comes, you’re looking at dinner for 50. That takes planning.

It seems to get earlier every year. This year we ate at noon and everyone dashes off to get to the in-laws.

A turkey does not need 11 hours of cooking. Even if you include the “rest time” post oven. Our most recent turkey cooked at my home, was 24 Pounds, was put into the oven at about 1:30PM, and eaten (and fully cooked, by temperature probe) at about 6PM. That time included gravy making, and getting lost in chit-chat before serving.

For that 1PM turkey, yep, you’re up at oh my god it’s early.

Breakfasted at about 11AM. I’d be ready for my next meal (normally) at about 6-7PM, at the earliest.

I tend to normally skip breakfast, lunch at about 1:00 or 1:30PM, then dinner (at home) at about 8PM. So for me (us) 4PM is just plain too early for eating… but that’s an ongoing debate with the in-laws, who are morning people. (Up at 5-6AM, in bed by 9:30-10PM, :smack: )

Growing up, we always ate huge holiday meals around 2-4pm. I continue this tradition. Breakfast is early, and you nosh on the snicky-snacks until everything is ready. Then pass out while watching football. Leftovers are anybody’s pickins later on.

My meal came out perfectly on time at 3:00. Unbelievable!

My plane doesn’t usually arrive at my parents’ city until around 3 pm on Thanksgiving day, so we always have the Thanksgiving meal in the evening.

Why don’t I catch an earlier flight? It costs twice as much!
