I was going to say something exactly like this, based on having watched a number of Writstwatch Revival’s videos, as recommended by @DavidNRockies above, who ninja’ed me.
I love Marshall’s videos and am one of his Patreon supporters. But the funny thing is that if you look for what other watchmakers say about him it’s pretty consistently that he over oils stuff. That’s how little it takes.
Okay, that’s hilarious!
As I noted before, I know diddly about watches.
But it sure seems the concensus is:
- There’s nothing useful a generic first-timer can do inside a watch.
- Most anyone can become a successful watch-diddling hobbyist. Just expect to sacrifice the first few watches along the way and to spend a bunch of money on teeny tools and giant magnifiers.
- Old mainstream department store brand watches are a dime a dozen.
- Actual professional watch repair people charge heavily for the time it takes to work on one of these miniature anachronisms.
If nothing else good comes out of today, at least I have this new descriptor to add to my
resume…
Successful Watch-Diddling Hobbyist.
