What to do for my skinny old kitty?

I have never known a cat not to think brewer’s yeast was the tastiest substance on earth. It is very high in B vitamins so I wouldn’t recommend indiscriminately adding it to any cat food you serve your cat unless the vet says it is okay to do so; you wouldn’t want your kitty to OD on it. However, if the vet agrees it is okay to offer to you cat, I’d try putting a sprinkle onto his food and see if that increases its appeal.

I don’t know if real brewer’s yeast is still available any more since “nutritional yeast” is usually what is for sale. My current cats like nutritional yeast too, but I don’t know if there is something special about the brewer’s - it seems to drive cats especially crazy.

That’s what it was for our old cat. He didn’t seem to be suffering, but was eating lots and still losing weight. Once his medication was sorted out (there was a bit of trial and error with dosage) he put the weight back on and is happy and healthy now. He is also back to eating a normal amount (offsetting slightly the cost of the medication  ).

Yes, go to the vet have blood work done for thyroid kidney etc… Have teeth cleaned if needed.

Also,
Feed your geriatric cat a good wet food not dry food, it is much easier to digest. Feeding him/her dry food is like giving a dry bowl of cereal with no milk to an 80 year old human, not easy for them and dehydrating. Also, have teeth checked.
