# What to do for New Years in L.A.?

… unfortunately I am unable to go Vegas this year.

Not much happens in this city come New Years, and I think that it is by design. In the 27 years that I’ve lived here, not once have I ever known of a Times Square-like New Years blowout happening here. That is why I make it a point to make my own blowout here at home.

The only sizeable grouping of people on New Year’s Eve that I know of are the people who camp out on Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena waiting for the Rose Parade.

LA is not a New Year’s Eve kind of town.

I’ve never gone out on New Year’s Eve so I don’t know from first hand experience about events, but I have heard about the First Night events. They sound like fun. I googled “first night” + CA and there is one in [Fullerton](http://www.ci.fullerton.ca.us/facts/firstnight.html) . There are other cities if you want to look.
