If anyone is feeling adventurous to help me plan my trip I will be staying in Passignano sul Trasimeno area.
I really do not expect anyone to do work on this but, if you have been through the Umbria area (drive from Rome to there or stuff within a 2(ish) hour drive) and have something to recommend I’d love to hear about it.
I do plan on taking a train to Florence and spending a day and night there.
Go to the Borghese and stand dumbstruck in front of the Bernini sculptures as you realize that he carved The Rape of Proserpina at age 23.
The Colosseum opens at 9:00. In my experiance if you get to major tourist sites when they first open you will beat the crowd and be able to truely enjoy it, especially on a Saturday morning. As you are leaving you will see the line of tourist who slept in and be glad you showed up early. Its definitly a stop that says “I’ve been to Rome”. Six hours should be plenty to go inside, see it at a leisurely pace and stop to eat at a sidewalk cafe and people watch.
Go to old Rome - where the attractions are. Do a circuit or 2 (what you have time for) on the Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus. It will take you past the major attractions and give you commentary on the headset provided. Time permitting, if you fancy something in particular, you could get off the bus for a closer look or a bit of a walk about. There will be another bus along in a few minutes.
I wouldn’t bother queuing up to get inside anywhere. Just get a taste. Save lining up for a visit when you have the time.
Lucca is my absolute favorite place in Italy. Just perfect.
