What to do with the body of a dead pet

I live in the city and have a tiny yard. Burying a large dog is not an option. When I was faced with the reality that my old dog was nearing the end of her days I started doing some internet research and discovered that I could take her to be cremated. Leaving her at the vet’s and having them arrange that was also an option, but the idea of her sitting in a vet’s freezer until the collection van came around didn’t appeal to me.

I drove her body to the place. It was sad and a bit morbid, but the people there were kind and understanding and her ashes were couriered to me a short time later. I also had the option of group cremation with no return of ashes for a cheaper fee.

My family has buried all of our pets. When my cat Sunny was killed (ran out and was hit by a car) we wrapped her in her favorite little blanket that she liked to lay on, and placed her in a shoebox. My brother dug a hole in the backyard and there she went.

Two words: Viking funeral.
