I’ll be visiting Costa Rica for the first time in August (Yeah, I know, rainy season). Any suggestions on what I should visit or avoid? So far my plans are somewhat vague, but I intend to see some volcanoes, rainforests, and do some diving on the Pacific coast. Thanks in advance! 🙂 ---

I asked this myself before visiting there last November. We stayed down in Mal Pais the whole time, surfing and fishing. My toughts: it was awesome. The people are nothing but friendly and easy-going, we felt totally safe the whole time, and it was pretty cheap. We never made it to the Gulf (creole) side, nor Manuel-Antonio, which everyone says is fantastic. But, we did go to Tabacon and see the volcano - THAT was incredible. Imagine sitting in a 100 degree natural hot spring waterfall-type thing, watching huge chunks of lava tumble down an active volcano. I did the stuff Dooku didn’t (the Gulf coast and Quepos/Manuel Antonio), and they were fantastic too. Go to Qeupos if you can. It’s amazing there, and I read they were going to build a big Jurassic Park style theme park in the area, so see it before it becomes South Orlando. ---

Well, Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna are nice. Though you might have problems with the local fauna…😃 Seriously though, have fun on the trip! Ranchoth ---

I went in August too. Everything is really green then so it is pretty neat and pretty. Spend close to a whole day at the Arenal Volcano or maybe even stay a night at the hotel/resort there. That was my favorite part of the trip. ---

We stayed in Jaco Beach and enjoyed it very much. As stated the people are very friendly and we never had any fears for our safety. Driving is quite an experience and watch out for the crocs. 😃 [sup]Contrary to reports the food is great, but stay away from the hamburgers[/sup] ---

Everything mentioned above is beautiful and well worth seeing. Try and stop in Puntarenas and visit the Polar Bar. Listen to Big Chris’ stories as you down an Imperial and some ceviche - the breakfast of champions. The town is definitely non-touristy, but should provide a few good adventures. ---
