Absolutely. But I haven’t seen the dvds and I know a lot of people were complaining about the music being all changed.
If you must watch Babylon 5, watch only Seasons 2 and 3. If you insist on watching all of the seasons, please be sure to have a tub of lye available, so that you can immediately burn out your eyes upon completion of the series.

Oh, and I third (or whatever) “Cracker.” Excellent.
My wife & I did St. Elsewhere a while back and enjoyed it. She wasn’t at all familiar with the show and I wasn’t sure she’d enjoy it since it didn’t even have nostalgia value for her but she sat and ate 'em up with me.
Worst part is that only Season 1 is out on DVD. Three discs and you’re done.
I like The Shield too, but after watching The Wire, all the other crime dramas – even that one, which is way above the rest – seem melodramatic, over-written, and over-acted.
Seriously, The Wire will ruin you for crime drama on TV.
For most episodes it does not matter, for a few it ruined key moments in the show. Les’ date with Jennifer is the best example where the music change blew the classic scene.
I came to suggest both of these We just finished F&G and have Undeclared waiting to be watched.
If you’re into anime, try Cowboy Bebop. Awesome music, snappy writing, cool plots, and an ending.
I love Netflix for TV shows. We have the 2 at a time plan, so we usually get one TV show and one movie. Fun!
We should pause here for a moment and thank Netflix. What a great service.
I have seen the following shows thru Netflix and highly recommend them:
- The Wire (has this one been mentioned yet?)
- Freaks and Geeks
- Deadwood (Season 1 only)
- Firefly (has this been mentioned yet?)
- Veronica Mars
A couple of other one-season only shows that I greatly enjoyed were Wonderfalls and Undeclared. I don’t believe either of these has yet been mentioned in this thread.
I like Da Vinci’s Inquest (from Canada) quite a lot. Not much gunplay, or even fistfighting, and it can be slow, but I always enjoy it.
I like Dominic’s assistant, Helen, who reminds me of Olive Oyl.
The great thing about the show is supposed to be the five season preplanned story arch. How is this great though if I cannot force myself to watch more than half of season one before realizing I’m just not that masochistic. Seasons two and three might be great, but I’ll never know.
You’re not too old for Buffy and Angel. I’m not, anyway; and I think I’m reasonably mature despite my youthful 37 1/2 years.
Of course Firefly is a great recommendation.
In some ways I like Angel better as well; it’s darker, but also funnier as well. However, it doesn’t ever quite reach the excellence of certain Buffy episodes such as “Hush” or “The Body,” in my opinion, but I’ve missed most of the reportedly hokier Angel season 4. My opinion is thus not as complete as it is for Buffy.
If you haven’t seen the new Battlestar Galatica, that’s a good one to start on as well.
Also, may I suggest The Extras for some subtle-but-hilarious comedy gold?
I saw a commercial on AMC a bit ago for the release of the old series Wild Wild West on DVD. I don’t know if it’s the first release or there have been more – but I have fond memories of that series. Is it as cool as I remember as a kid?
I found that neither Wild Wild West or Baa Baa Black Sheep held up well. I loved both as a kid. WWW on repeats, BBBS first run.
BTW: What was up with Robert Conrad’s series names?
Jim
Too bad about BBBS. I remember liking it as a kid, but I have only vague memories of it. The guys singing at the beginning was pretty neat. “We are pooor little lambs…”
Looks like no one has mentioned The Rockford Files. It wasn’t quite as cool as I remembered, but my wife and I both enjoyed Season 1 when we Netflixed it a couple months ago. Rockford’s character is pretty well-drawn, and I love watching him scream around in his gold Firebird.
Well for what it is worth, WWW ended up looking completely cheesy. BBBS just wasn’t the kick-ass great show I remember. I have still watched a few episodes on the History channel here and there.
Speaking of Rockford, Columbo still works somehow. I am not a huge fan, but due to the star this show is never bad.
Jim
I just remembered another one no one has mentioned: Sledge Hammer! starring David Rasche as a pigheaded macho cop with a big gun. It was only on for two seasons (41 eps total), but it was a brilliantly funny send up of cop shows.
“Trust me. I know what I’m doing.”
It never jumped the shark as such, but I thought the episode where Millie is rebelling against her parents was a low-point in an otherwise very solid show.
Surely I’m not the only person here who adores It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It’s absolutely hilarious. My favorite episode is “Charlie Wants an Abortion”, where the main characters go to abortion rallies to pick up chicks. After they find out the pro-choice girls “must be gay”, they climb over the fence to the pro-life side. Best gag of the episode:
Mac is at a pro-life rally, trying to pick up a girl. After screaming “pro-choice is pro death!” the girl swoons. He pulls out a piece of paper from his shirt pocket and slides it over nonchalantly.
“It’s a list of all the doctors I’m going to kill.”
“There’s already two crossed off.”
“Yeah, I know.”
cut scene to them fucking like crazy in his car
Sidesplittingly hilarious and wrong on so many levels. And Danny DeVito is in the second season.
In case I’m not the only social outcast here;
jumping the shark
You’re welcome!
